  • ps: yes i would like to get off meds too. all of my meds are for my pain and low energy so when that gets better i plan to do it with my naturopath’s help. i admire your courage.
  • please be careful! I have had some VERY bad reactions to going off meds too drastically. if i were you i would wait and let the raw effect take place then go off the meds. when i did go off my meds for awhile, i switched over to st. john’s wort, fla…
  • i almost didn’t want to respond to this because i am in a different situation but I can relate to your wife. I am a teacher and I have done preschool and nannying so i know how it is. Kids are exhausting but don’t burn calories in the same way other…
  • thanks. yeah when i first became vegan i was a preacher. but i have learned that it takes time. i convinced by brother to be a vegetarian by leaving a “why vegan” in his room one day. he got it. my husband has his first green smoothie this morning! …
  • I went through a similar situation: my first year teaching AND planning a wedding. I think planning a wedding is one of the most stressful things ever. And of course, things like picking out a dress seem silly when your health is at risk. Certainly …
  • i saw some raw ones in the raw section of my health food store. they had dried ones too.
  • i agree with all who said 1 avocado is ok. i personally have about a half on most days but i also eat coconut and nuts and seeds. i haven't gained any weight. i'm curious why you are so worried about losing weight, from your picture, you look very t…

  • it’s a very different type of fat and your body processes it differently than fats from animal products. what diet were you on before? there are these diet trends that go through american culture that say “fat is bad” one day and then “carbs are bad…
  • I have been reading a lot about juice fasts and juice feasts lately and I think the latest research out there shows that you really shouldn’t do it on water alone. juices provide your body energy but do not tax the digestive system so your body can …

  • I have a pretty cheap blender and I find I have to give it time. I blend for a few minutes, then let it rest. I blend for up to 5 min. It does the job ok, no chunks. You also need to CHEW your smoothie, since the enzymes released in your saliva help…
  • bluedolphin, that is good advice but everyone seems to be doing it. i looked up green for life at my library (which has a database for all the libraries in seattle) and there are 29 holds on it for 9 copies. wow!
  • i think at first it probably is expensive, because you are trying out new things and figuring out what you like. the same thing happened to me when I first became vegetarian then cut out gluten. my first week of all raw I was at the grocery store al…
  • i plan to do one this summer, when it’s cheaper and more available at the markets. I have been wondering though, what is the difference between a juice feast and a juice fast? I have read up on juice feasts and it seems that is more a smoothie-based…
  • since i am trying not to go broke, occaisionally i will get a lemon that is not organic. or bananas if the organic ones are not ripe. not ideal. since melons are not in season right now in the north chances are pretty slim that they are organic. i f…

  • we plan to adopt for environmental reasons. i understand that women and men have children for emotional reasons but i think we need to broaden our idea of what a family is. nuclear family lifestyle is really not very sustainable. americans use up mo…
  • Cinnamon Rolls I have made about 4-5 recipes from here so far and this is my favorite. You just have to have the cashew-coconut frosting with it too.

  • i think it’s important to try to have a few meals in a row raw so you can see how your body feels. then wehn you eat cooked foods again see how you feel. add more raw juices. if you do not have a juicer, see if you can find a place to buy a fresh ju…
  • two days ago i noticed my skin had a different look to it. (I’m 2 weeks raw) not as much glow but rosy cheeks. my eyes still have bags under them though. still waiting for that to clear up.

  • yep i ate a banana after my salad for lunch and my stomach was not happy. it’s weird i can take it together in a smoothie form. and pears and apples are fine after lunch.

  • maybe spinach would be easier to digest than kale. or juice it rather than in smoothie form. i think it’s cool you are doing that! so many parents give their kids junk.

  • i only know herbs. stinging nettles. it sounds kooky but my friend lent me her magnetic necklace when I was having an allergy outbreak 5 years ago. I wore it for a few weeks. I have never had allergies again.
  • yeah i am confused about this too. mine also says RAW on it. there definitely was a non-raw option. even if it is technically not “raw” I still do not think it is as bad as cane sugar. or as addictive. at least for me.

  • Rhazula, thanks for sharing that link. I am so impressed with these stories. Mostly I am not as concerned with weight loss (although it is a good side effect if the pounds are not needed) but with curing major health problems, which Valerie Winters …
