  • Vaughn, are you sure about the bananas. I used to think that as well but in Renne Loux Underkoffler’s book Living Cuisine she says that non-organic bananas grown outside of are harvested early and then gassed to ripen. I ask because I was under the …

  • 123, yes it was the show with Dr. Oz. I thought it was a great program, they had all kinds of mini experiments. The first was the raw diet, then they had two people wear “fart pants” to measure how much gas they omitted in a day (3 litres!) and fina…

  • I saw something on TV as well, and no one was made out to be a freak! The Discovery Health channel has a program called The Truth About Food and while the show is not exclusivley vegetarian, they focus on healthy eating and benefits of healing foods…

  • I really dislike the idea of “all or nothing” espcially amongst people who have so much in common. Anybody reading or posting to these message boards is obviously interested in a more healthy and/or humane lifestyle. To begin to belittle people beca…

  • I noticed that when I first started eating raw foods, going heavy on the nuts and seeds didn’t bother me so much. It’s been almost three months now and honestly, I simply cannot use nuts or a seed as a basis for a meal, I agree kissedbyfire, it ends…
  • I found some at a Whole Foods Market but I had to do some serious searching.
  • the biggest differance I’ve noticed is very little mess afterwards, very easy to clean. Also things come out much more smoothly, more often and less stinky.
  • I’ve worn glasses for about 3 years, I could see okay without them but if I didn’t wear them my eyes would feel tired and I’d get headaches. Since eating raw foods I would say I wear my glasses 80% less than I used to. For things like driving and re…
  • I like Ani’s book a lot too. The most recent one I got is the Rainbow…something? I forget the rest of the title but it’s a Gabriel Cousens book. When I was reading reviews of his book there were some people saying he’s a quack, but a lot of the reci…

  • writeeternity, the applebread sandwich sounds like a good snack!
  • KMom, I’m in Canada, but that was the price at just one store. Usually I pay between $6-8/lb, but I was shocked with the price at Whole Foods!

  • I just picked up dates at my local Whole Foods – $11.59/lb! That’s outrageous, even for around here.

  • Medjool dates are my favorite, they’re so soft and sweet. It’s hard for me to stop snacking on them. I’m in Canada right now and I think they’re usually between 6-7.50/lb.

  • I haven’t tried any of them yet, but there are some dressing recipes on this site that look great. If you look under the dressings sections, there’s garlic ones, avocado, cilantro and lime, they all sound yum.
  • I tried the banana dressing today but added cilantro, lime, black pepper and cumin for a taco type salad, it was great! The banana added a little sweetness but did overwhelm everything with banana flavor. Chris, thanks for the tip!

  • Chris, thanks so much! The banana idea sounds delicious! The cucumber sounds like it would work well as a direct replacement because the taste would hide behind the other flavors.

  • The other day I made Ani Phyo’s “Dreaming of Donut Holes” (you can find the recipes at aniphyo.com), they were a great treat. The original recipe does use nuts, but if you’re able to sub seeds I think they’d be great for kids (they can help roll the…
