  • I go camping a lot and have to take all my own food for up to 5 days without equipment or a fridge. Here's what I do: First, get yourself a good quality cooler, spend money on it, cheap ones will only keep ice for two days, one if its warm, a good o…

  • In France/Germany/Spain you should be okay, their supermarkets stock fresh fruit and vega and plenty of nuts etc, and at least in france and germany they have health food sections and alternative/specialist vegan products. If it's a school trip you …
  • good idea! this salad is something I make for my family, they love it! http://www.goneraw.com/recipe/butternut-ambrosia-salad It can be a full meal for you, and a side for them.
  • Yes you could get a job etc, but it's just so ridiculous that you would have to do that! You're 16 and you live at home, your parents should be buying your food! If you really only spend $60 a week on food then I guarantee that is not as much as you…
  • Excuse my french, but that's fucked. Not soley, but especially because you're a recovering anorexic, they should be supporting your food choices. It's hard to eat as cheaply raw as sad because you cant bulk out your meals with pasta, rice, bread, po…
  • iliveyourdream is right, 811 isn't for everyone, as good as it is for some people, it's still a pretty extreme diet to stick to long term. Don't get caught up in the politics of the different diets, just eat what you to eat. if you want to lose weig…
  • I'm in the same boat, bulimia/anorexia interchangeably for almost 2 years now (ugh.) Becoming vegan really helped, and now I find that moving towards more raw is even better. DD, I love the idea of a re-binge journal, I'm going to do that next time,…
  • That sounds delicious to me! I love that spice combo, but i prefer chili powder to cayenne, less peppery.
  • I think you need to eat what you feel you need. the human body is pretty good at telling you're lacking through cravings, so you should listen to it. Around here seem to eat very little in the way of calories, and that's fine, because theyre maintai…
  • There are a few pulses and grains, and I think quinoa is one of them, although I would have to check that need to be cooked for their nutritional value to become available - cooking denatures an enzyme that stops them from breaking down properly. It…
  • I make an iced 'thing' that's very refreshing - I'm entirely sure it'd go with your menu plan.... 1 green apple 1 lemon, juice and flesh about a tsp ginger 1 tsp honey/agave nectar (or i think dates would work for 100% raw) top up to about 1 -1.5L w…
  • I don't think everyone could - it would depend on the severity. Bipolar is a genetic chemical imbalance - its not a side effect of a lifestyle, so while raw eating, yoga, and a healthy lifestyle can make your body the best it can be - the best it ca…

  • I'm Bipolar as well, Type II, as well as an anxiety disorder and an eating disorder* that nearly killed me - they all feed off each other. I went vegan (and 50-75% raw) after 18 months of getting worse and worse and hitting a low point where I had t…

  • Kitty - I've been to 3 dermatologists in my life - two were like 'hi, here, take this drug.' the other (who was thankfully my first) gave me all the information and options, natural and modern and tried 5 or 6 different strategies with me. Simple th…

  • whoops, becky said a lot of the same things i did. on B12; B12 is only found in animal products and yeasts (which are not a plant.) It's pretty important and all veg*ns really should supplement is somehow. I have no idea if there are raw sources, I …

  • The best way to do it I think, is to get full blood work done so you can see if you ARE low in anything - you may not be. Some people just absorb iron better than others, I have two friends, both omnivores, who have low iron problems despite followi…

in Chia Seeds Comment by Jaimie
  • It doesn't NEED to be sprouted for you to eat them, like grains, but they'll be more palatable if you soak them or sprout them. raw quinoa with tails? the tail is the germ of the seed - i've never seen it visible unless it's been cooked....
  • rawlizard if you're eating a 'grainless diet' i think quinoa would fit into it, as it's nutritional structure is nothing like most cereal grains - it's much closer to that of dark coloured, iron-rich vegetables like spinach and beet.
  • Quinoa is actually the seed of a flowering plant (family: Amaranthaceae) Most cereal grains are the seeds of grasses (family: Poaceae) Which is why they have such completely different nutritional values to grains. Some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/…
  • I put flaxseed oil in my vege/fruit smoothies - you can't taste it. Ideally you should take any supplement WITH food or IN food to make sure your body absorbs it well, so If you're taking capsules, take them in the middle of a meal.

  • I know a lot of vegetarians and vegans, and some mostly raw, but I'm a uni student and the culture thrives there.
  • Hmmm, mushrooms in a smoothie..... I'll have to try that one, normally I'm not a fan or raw mushrooms but big field mushies dont have that much flavour...
  • I'm not talking about 'belly fat' so much as the natural distribution of the percentage of fat in your body. i.e. say (simplistically speaking) my brother and i have 10lbs of fat on us - a higher percentage of mine will be stored around my belly, hi…
  • If that equation doesn't seem true for you there are a number of reasons it may not work but it still remains the way the human body works, any doctor or dietician will tell you that. Different things affect it - exercise, fitness, meal frequency, s…
  • The equation is very simple - if you consume less calories than you expend you will lose weight. Obviously there are numerous methods of making this more or less effective, but the base equation remains true. Step 1: go here http://www.bmi-calculato…
  • If it is just a flu then there's nothing you can do to cure it, only relieve the symptoms. There's been plenty of good advice - i'd like to add, the following herbs can provide relief when brewed as tea: - catnip (relaxant) - white willow (contains …
  • I chuck a teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder into a green smoothie. Its a herb that's also known as indian ginseng.
  • Dancin' Durian - we're both Drew Barrymore! I love what you said about the note to strangers - that's the kind of thing I'd like to do.
  • 1: What country are you from? Australia 2: What's your occupation? Student - marine biology/ecology 3: How long have you been Raw? 2 months, 50-70%. 4: Favourite Film? I couldnt say, but the best film I've seen recently is 'Good' with Viggo Mortense…
