Ugh. We had a pot luck at work and I felt guilted into having a plate so I had a few bites of pasta salad because I didn't think it had mayo on it but it did and I am super sick.
But I wasn't at all enticed by the brownies or any of the cupcakes or other junk wooooo I'm so surprised. It actually made me sick to watch people shoving 7 layer dip and whipped cream in their faces. I'm doing good!!
Oh really? Today I'm at 16% =)
Banana and buckwheat smoothie
Apple
2 cups raspberries
Lettuce and seaweed salad
2 nectarines
Green juice
Grapes

Have you got any good advice for eating high fruit during the gloomy English winter? I can't get enough fruit in summer but always crave more high fat raw in winter! I worry about buying too much stuff with lots of airmiles too which just about leaves me with apples, pears and blackberries frozen from my autumn foraging.
Any tips?
Thanks :)
ugh. High freaking stress level today led to bad bad eating.
I had about 1 cup raw guac with 30ish tortilla chips
6 grilled asparagus spears with EVOO, garlic salt and regular salt
1/4 cup brown basmati rice and a warm tortilla
few bites of watermelon
1 nectarine
1 banana
2 garden burgers
3 slices of lettuce + red onion + tomato + dill pickles
and a sip of coke!! ARGGGHHH
Blergh. Got lots of fruits and veggies for tomorrow though.
Oh yeah, and I lost 10 lbs as of today since I went no meat/no dairy/semi-raw 11 days ago :)!!
I'm still so new to this - the conversations about fat/carb ratios make my head SPIN. (I have no weight issues - only a desire for optimum health - ok - I guess a wee bit less fat would be great, but I'm not freakishly particular about that, and I'm 41 not 18 for goodness sakes...) I logged onto that fitday site and wandered around on there for a long while. It's a great tool to bring awareness to your food & nutritional values. I've looked at labels before, but fitday really had me account for what I ate and consequently I learned exactly what the food was all about, which is a first for me. I think I'll pass recounting here what I ate today, since I just spent over 30 minutes recalling, entering and calculating ALL THAT on fitday... but I will say I was at 38% fat, 47% carb, 10% protein and I think for me that is fabulous! blessings - Sara
Thanks for all the congratulations. I'm down 12 lbs total as of today. It's becoming so easy for me to eat less now that I don't eat meat or dairy. Dieting in the past has always failed for me, I could never stop eating. Portion control was always a big issue with me. But now that I completely cut out these items there's no way for me to over eat. It seems silly because choosing not to eat something is the same type of personal restriction I tried to impose on myself when I wanted to eat less. I haven't even wanted to eat meat the entire time, it doesn't even smell good to me anymore. Cheese is another situation all together. God I want some cheesecake, but I'll live.
It's also easier for me to eat healthier and avoid meats and dairy because I've told everyone about my desire to stop eating these things. First and foremost my family and friends don't invite me to restaurants without veggie options and my dad and his gf have been conscious to make sure there are veggies on the dinner table (even tho they are cooked). So that's super motivational. Also instead of just facing personal guilt for a slip up I think I'm also motivated by the expectations of others for me to not eat these things since I said I've won't. I know that I shouldn't care what they think (most of them actually think I'm doing my body harm anyway) but I know I want to do this for me and it is a million times healthier, so any motivation that helps is useful in my opinion.
I haven't had as much luck upping my raw intake overall. I am eating a lot of raw fruits but having trouble consuming veggies raw (other than in a salad). Haven't been able to afford a blender or food processor as of late so I can't partake in any yummy smoothies. They cut my hours at work so I doubt I'll be able to get one anytime soon, but that's no excuse I'm still working towards more raw. Gotta give up coffee (its so hard!!). And I crave warm meals and richer foods like potatoes etc. It's how I feel full.
Either way I still feel a lot healthier and have a lot more energy and though I spend a lot more time researching foods and nutrition I feel like I'm no longer obsessed with food in my daily life as a means of subduing other emotions or passing the time.
Cheeseburgers=diseases, not happiness lol
who knew?
Enough babbling. I'll get down to business. Today so far I've had:
coffee + soy milk
salad with mixed baby greens, sprouts, sunflower seeds, a whole cucumber in slices, carrots, 1/2 avocado, sea salt
organic baked french fries =X
1 banana
Swayze & pixxx: What kind of food do you two feed your pets? I'm thinking of getting a small dog and want to know healthy options for him/her!!
Breakfast:
Green Lemonade (kale, celery, lemon, apples, ginger, in the juicer)
Snack:
1/2 cantaloupe
tangerine
pluot
fresh squeezed OJ (always so yummy!)
Lunch:
coleslaw with carrots and currants
Workout Snack:
Lara Bar
Dinner:
Avocado and Veggie sandwich on sprouted grain bread
Thanks for the pet food tips! I'm going to get a small breed, probably a chihuahua, so organic won't be a problem since I won't need to buy her/him that much food hopefully.
Today I am super hungry, out of fruit at work and still jonesin'. So far I've had:
2 nectarines
2 medium bananas
1 apple
coffee + soy milk
a tortilla
sliced peaches
going to have maple oatmeal later , probably a garden burger with veggies and guac for dinner, frozen bananas for dessert with cinnamin mmmmm
Yesterday:
B: three plums
Snack: juice of four oranges
Snack: organic chocolate
L: large salad with tomato, avocado, green leaf lettuce, lemon juice, bragg's
D: strawberry and romaine smoothie
So far today:
B: four peaches
Unfortunately I graze on junk food at work so my intake is not as straightforward as what is listed above.... ugh. A few fun size candy bars. Anyone else have this problem? I just have this chocolate addiction I can't shake and raw cacao doesn't do it for me, besides the fact that it's far too stimulating for me to handle. If I could get rid of the chocolate, my diet would be extremely clean. I think it might be a chemical-emotional addiction but I'm not positive...
B: 4 peaches
L: Nori rolls with avo, bell pepper, cucumber, bragg's
D: strawberry, romaine, vitamineral green, orange juice smoothie
Snack: cacao hemp milk
Already had my daily dose of coffee + soy milk.
Last night I blew it big time and ate spinach/artichoke dip with parmeson. God it so good, and the bad part is it didn't make me sick at all ugh!! I only had a little bit though but I really couldn't help myself. Oh well, onwards and upwards...
On my desk for today:
miso soup
1 apricot (a friend brought me)
2 nectarines
2 lrg bananas
baby carrots + 1.5 tbsp organic PB
tortilla
Re: raw pet food:
Thanks for the tips guys!
follow up question: How much do you feed your animals per day? and where do you get this from? do you go to the grocery store and ask for bones and organs at the meat counter? lol
Today is going to be interesting. I had mongolian BBQ for dinner last night. Buckets of veggies with a little bit of noodles but I'm feeling the hurt today for that mishap.
Anyhow,
So far I've had a banana and my coffee + soy
For lunch I'm having a veggie salad from California Pizza Kitchen
and I've got 2 nectarines and some blueberries calling my name for later. We'll see.
Have a great day all
A simple green smoothie of two handfuls of spinach and two bananas
2 raw oatmeal raisin apple cookies
Leftover walnut tacos wrapped in lettuce with fresh salsa and 1/2 an avocado
These damn cookies are going to be the death of me.
Breakfast: Spinach and banana smoothie again..
Lunch: couple spoonfuls of walnut taco mixed with salsa from last night on a bed of spinach
pear
oatmeal cookies (see above)
Dinner: kale and cabbage slaw
canteloupe
Found the recipe for the kale and cabbage slaw in one of the early Supercharge Me podcasts. The salt wilts the kale and it is really delicious and a great way to include more greens in your diet.
I've been eating way less raw lately, not sure why...but reading this has inspired me to try again. I miss eating mostly fruit and salad, I forgot how much so until just now! Thanks for all the inspiration everyone. : )
coffee + soy milk
1 nectarine
1 banana
1 large romaine based salad with guac, carrots, cucumber and onion

-1/2 honeydew
-Smoothie: Banana, blueberry, basil, kale, 3 cups

-5 Brazil nuts
-3 nori rolls: guacamole, carrots, cucumber, red bell pepper, mustard greens
-2 or 3 squares of dark chocolate
That is a lot, right? I don't have much of an appetite today. I hate being bored at work, but it shouldn't last much longer because my boss is back from vacation.
In my bag for today:
3 bananas
2 nectarines
oatmeal
1.5 cups of spanish rice
carrot sticks + 2tbsp organic PB
dinner will probably involve a salad.

English cherries
Raw chocolate brownie
Banana
Green Smoothie- Coconut water, mango, kale
A little pineapple and some melon
Carrot apple orange juice
peach
banana w/ almond butter
some coconut water
I'm depressed.
I went completely crazy these past few days, even ate meat once =X and had a lot a lot a lot of dairy.
I was still within a good daily range as far as calories go, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. I feel like crap! I feel like I ruined all the hard work I've done and I'm really really embarassed. I don't know where my motivation went, I was doing so great!! I just became severely depressed and started getting very self destructive.
Ah well, trying to get back on track today. I brought the following to work:
coffee + soy milk
diced peaches
2 nectarines
a giant bundle of grapes
oatmeal
hopefully that will hold me over til 4 pm...
neskalee- You can't expect yourself to be perfect and never slip! Going raw (or vegan, or vegetarian, or even just healthier) takes time and very very few people can just jump in and never look back. Yes you have done a lot of hard work but pat yourself on the back for it and don't look at your little slip as "ruining" it! Slips make you stronger and more determined to make it work. They teach you things. Now you know what triggers that sort of eating. Now you know might know how dairy and meat make you feel after awhile on vegan/raw. It's a learning experience! It's good that you're jumping right on track, that's exactly what you need to do so don't dwell on it. GOOD JOB!!!
Thanks for the encouragement iluvlife, I really appreciate it, but I still feel like crap.
Honestly the worst part was that despite the stomach problems I encountered a few hours after eating that junk, I finally felt full and sated for the first time in a long time. I know that raw foods are better for me and Im sure at times I wasn't eating enough fruits and veggies but I did honestly miss the filling of fullness I got from denser fattier foods. ughhghghg
Thanks again everyone. And swayze you're right, I'm used to be stuffed stuffed!!!
I'm still depressed. I was hoping that eating those foods would make me feel worse that it did honestly. I enjoyed it, I felt like I was catching up with an old friend and it had barely been a month. Now I'm not really enjoying the sweetness of fruit. I'll just have to stomach it and try and eat more salads.
*pout*
breakfast: Green smoothie (Mango, orange, spinach, flaxseed, hemp protein powder)
lunch: Salad (Lettuce, red pepper, cucumber, carrot, avocado, walnuts) Banana, dates

I think I ate waay too much this weekend - BUT, it was about 80% raw! We went to Chicago and my wonderful husband went with me to TWO raw restaurants!!! Both were all-you-can-eat buffets, so of course I had to try everything. It was fabulous.
But, so far this week I don't have much of an appetite, which I guess is OK to make up for the weekend.
Yesterday I ate:
Banana banana smoothie (I was low on groceries): 4 bananas and 2 tbs maca powder mix. It was delish!
Kombucha (store bought)
1 cup watermelon
Veggie soup (inspired by what I had in Chicago) - 1 tiny avocado, 1/2 cucumber, 1/2 yellow squash, 1 head spinach, 1 green apple, some savoye cabbage, cumin and cayenne, nutritional yeast. It was much better than previous attempts at soup because I added some un-blended bits at the end. MUCH more soup-like!
1 date
For me that is like nothing. I feel a lot better though, by Sunday night I was getting pretty bogged down. The gourmet, restaurant raw is soo tasty, but a little hard on the digestion eh?
