  • It will last longer if you keep it in fridge. But since it's dehydrated, I'm not surprised it didn't go bad in that time frame. Thanks for that info.
  • Still... nobody knows how long it will last?
  • Actually, that stuff can't last that long out of the fridge... or in a jar... can it? How long is the shelf life? And when you open it, how long is it fresh for?
  • Wow, I am impressed! I knew someone would come up with that someday... except, I guess their almonds are imported. The price is double to (an already expensive) Whole Foods where nut betters cost $12 there (~12 oz)... and these are $15 for germinate…
  • achin70 - if you germinate, nuts/seeds become more alkaline.
  • Seeds are sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, flax seed… Nuts are pecans, walnuts, almonds, brazil nuts… The best way my husband and I could differentiate is that a nut comes from a tree… and a seed comes from a plant (flower, pumpkin, etc). This just s…
  • Germinated nut have helped digestion in the beginning of going raw. But too much of them (mostly dehydrated) and digestion slows down. Nuts or seeds!
  • If you get a dehydrator, brown parchment paper will work… it’s dries food out a little better than Teflex. And, you have to buy it more often. The Teflex sheets do make foods more “smoother”. But, it’s made of teflon. Have you tried a toaster oven t…
  • I recommend coconut macaroons. Easy, you don’t even have to dehydrate them. The problem you may have if you don’t use a dehydrator… is that you have to do everything the same day, the night before, or (maybe 2 nights before)... because food will go …
  • Possibly consider seeing a nutritionist/dietitian specializing in vegan raw foods. Or just vegan cooked, and you can eat it raw instead!

  • Nuts typically soaked up to 48 hours changing the water 2-4 times a day. Seeds and grains up to 24 hours changing water 2-4 times a day. When changing the water, rinse the nuts/seeds. If they smell, keep rinsing until the smell goes away. If the sme…
  • For one, you’ll be fine with the 7Cup. But, if you want to dehydrate stuff, the 11-Cup will be best. I wish I got the 14-Cup now that I’m doing this more often. There’s only 2 of us to feed here.
  • Totally off topic, by my diet is based on:
  • I totally agree with you queenfluff. I have seen recipes that are from raw books I have… even though they have slight modifications. But sometimes, the original recipe has an ingredient I don’t have/want which can be replaced by another ingredient, …

  • Good question. It should be labeled. I love black olives and mediterranean olives and when I tried the raw ones, I didn’t like them… maybe it was the type I bought.
  • Ani Phyo or Renee Underkoffler uses them in her recipes. (I bought them too because of those books… but I haven’t tried them.)

  • Try avocado or 1st c.p. olive oil. And, probably eating flaxseed or fats. I have dry skin too… but not cuts & cracks. I’m not too sure how to moisturize naturally, but I have tried first cold-pressed olive oil, avocado, and coconut butter topica…
  • Zooey Glass & superkat92: I’m pretty sure it’s because you are using IE or Firefox. I get this error from my Windows/IE… but not on Mac/Safari.
  • That’s a good question. What do you mean by neutral? Maybe add water. We like almond milk. Mmmm, macadamias, I haven’t had macadamia milk. Hazelnut milk has a distinctive flavor. Oat milk is sweet, I like that one too… but haven’t had it raw.

  • Natural Zing.com sells them. And, My Organic Market in Elkridge, MD sells steam pasteurized almonds that will still sprout… so the label says. Judging by another post…it looks like you are in the MD/DC area. These 2 places are in that area.
  • Oooo, thanks for the great idea for substituting young coconut! They are pretty expensive and hard to find where I’m at…

  • thanks locustgirl. that’s great information!
  • I bought organic Rapunzel sunflower oil from the Common Market in MD. I don’t know how I will use it… but thought it was a deal of a price compared to 1st cold pressed olive oil. It is not enriched either. Just guessing here: I would agree… if the o…
  • Yeah, where is it!

  • Parchment paper. You probably should pre-cut a whole lot of round ones with holes (so air could flow). That way, they are ready to go when you want to dehydrate. Unless… do they sell parchment paper for circular dehydrators… doubtful.
  • Mango Cheesecake. Yup, I’m not tired of it… I must’ve mentioned this cheesecake 10 times on this site since I first made it. This is a good question! Because, sometimes… I don’t feel like experimenting… and I just want a great recipe that will turn …
  • Yes, I too wonder about the long term affects… I agree with SarahJ about getting our nutrients from raw foods… but, long life is not just about nutrition… it’s about all the other good things for you… excercise, water, sunshine, rest, etc… n.e.w.s.t…
  • Great topic. Price comparison time! (sorry, I don’t have any input. I am trying to be a more frugal shopper… and I just started tracking prices recently… but stopped.)
  • I haven’t tried backpacking on a raw diet… we’ve been wondering how one would do that. But, I imagine a lot of dehydrated stuff… since lighter is better and water is heavy. Good luck with your experiment.
  • Ummm, why do you want to dehydrate raw honey? It’s anti-bacterial… it shouldn’t go bad. What do you need freeze dried honey for… what will you use dehydrated honey for?
