  • I attended Dr. Cousens' diabetic program about four years ago and stayed at the center for four weeks. I am still basically on phase 1 and I love it. Just push through in the beginning and you will feel so much better. Drink a lot of water and be ki…
  • Take a look at Dr. Jason Fung's website/blog. This is the only way I've been able to lose weight in the past 6 years.

  • Sarahf -- Rolled oats and rye flakes are not raw. They are heated in the rolling process. Maple syrup, of course, is also not raw. But they do sound good. Try subbing sprouted buckwheat if you want it to be truly raw.
  • I'm looking for the raw bacon recipe that uses eggplant. Anyone remember that?
  • Well, yeah, I have. I have also used stevia or xylitol when I want sweet, but I have found that without sugar (refined, honey, dates, fruit, etc.) in my diet I don't really have a desire for sweet foods. I love eating a purely savoury raw vegan diet.

  • Suede Hills, I am not looking for something sweet to eat. If you (and so many others) had read my original post, I am looking for savoury ideas. I have been to Dr. Cousen's retreat center and have been instructed to eat NO FRUIT. This has worked ver…

  • Intersting that swayze refers to Patenaude who is no longer a raw foodist. IMHO that much fruit (sugar) is a slippery slope. I would tend to go with Adnexal's suggestions especially how to NOT eat (check out Jason Fung, M.D.'s website and blog, has …
  • In response to the comments earlier in this post, fats have virtually no effect on blood sugar levels. The reason diabetics are put on low fat diets is simply to lower their caloric intake since fats have 9 calories versus proteins and carbohydrates…
  • I take a liquid B-12 supplement given to me by my naturopath who checks my blood levels from time to time. Most people, (80% of the US population) vegan or not, are now B-12 deficient. (Probably due to our deteriorating soil, air and water quality).…

  • I have all 3 books and I would recommend Jennifer Cornbleet's book first, Ani Phyo;s book second and Angela Stoke's book third. If you are just starting out, may I also recommend "Rawsome" by Bridget Mars and Alissa Cohen's book, Living on Live Food…
  • I don't think it is necessary to eat a lot of food. Personally I found that my appetite went down when I went raw, I am definitely satisfied with less food, no more cravings now that the cooked stuff is out of my system. I think the best thing to do…
  • Marykays1 -- No, not a Robert Young follower, will have to look him up, never heard of him. Yes, I have been testing ketones for years, but not recently.
  • I eat 100% raw, no cooked foods, no binging. No fruit or grains. Works for me. Your liver will make enough sugar (glucose) for your body through a process called glyconeogenesis. ALL carbohydrates are converted to glucose and by that means our bodie…
  • I consume no fruits, and no grains as a result of some current health problems. I have a diet with lots of variety that I am satisfied with. I use pumpkin and sunflower seed pates, cheezes and dips; salads for most meals; stuffed bell peppers, tomat…
  • I LOVE the bacon, it's not like bacon at all, but it tastes good. I've also cut peeled eggplant into small cubes and marinated it in a vinaigrette, tossed it with fresh tomatoes and that was pretty good, too. Rollatini, rawsagna, pasta...there are l…
  • I love lentil sprouts, they are my all time favorite, not as starchy as some of the bean sprouts and very crunchy. Sunflower seeds do NOT have to be sprouted in soil, sunflower greens should be unhulled and grown in soil in a tray, but you can sprou…

  • Harmony - If you have type 2 diabetes, then the 80/10/10 is not a good choice. It is meant more for athletes and has so much carbohydrate and sugar that it raises most people's blood sugar. Look into the Dr. Gabriel Cousens books. He is the diabetes…
  • Hi AliBee I was a type 2 diabetic on insulin, byetta and glucophage, all of which made me so sick I decided there had to be something better. I have been raw for about a year and a half. I started out initially, as Dr. Cousen's recommends, with a gr…
  • Anyone know how to make hemp seed butter from the seeds? I have a bunch in the fridge but I can't afford the butter right now.

  • I took a class with Shanti Cousen's in which we made raw Challah and it was wonderful. I'd post the recipe, but I'm hundreds of miles from home where the recipe is and I won't be home for a week. It's probably the one in the book, though. We made it…
  • My favorite use for alfalfa sprouts is spread a little raw mayo on a raw cracker or piece of raw bread, top with a huge handful of alfalfa sprouts and tomato slice, can also add sliced cucumber or some thinly sliced red onions, arugula or basil leav…

  • I detest my Saladacco, I think it is a cheap, useless piece of plastic. Sadly, the julienne peeler linked above is no longer available. I finally just got a Spirooli from Living Light and I love that for pasta, it is easy and it WORKS! Doesn’t make …

  • Any time I am worried about my food in the fridge getting too old, I slice or chop it up and dehydrate it. I have built up quite a collection of veggies that I powder for seasoning, or add to warm water for instant soup (not necessarily powdered). I…
  • It’s a good start. I would like to know when you pick them, green or black or green for some kinds of olives and black for others. Do you pick them when they are soft or hard? This is a good brining basic, I’d also like to know how to make Greek oli…

  • I consume 1-2 TBS of EV coconut oil occasionally. Other than that I don’t use any oils except an occasional squirt of flax oil in a salad. EVOO tastes good but according to Dr. Cousens it should be avoided. I just try to avoid any oil that has been …
  • Hi Bubbaw6 – I just completed the 92 day feast two weeks ago. I’d be happy to be your feasting support through the end. The last month I found was very easy, as the whole plan had become routine. The last two weeks I personally became almost insatia…
  • My mom took me to Cafe Gratitude (a famous and excellent raw food restaurant in the SF bay area) and ordered the lasagna. She couldn’t finish it and when the wait person asked her if she wanted to take it home, she smiled politely and said “Yes, I lo…
  • I would add.that as far as the protein thing goes, breastmilk is only 5%,protein, and look how well it grows little humans, faster than at any time in their lives, so I wouldn’t worry about that. You’re going to get more than that in raw greens! Yup…
  • DONT get the Saladacco, otherwise known as the Joyce Chen spiralizer—it is a piece of crap! I bought it, hated it and never used it again. Then I bought the Spiralo, not much better, but it is a step up. Finally bought the Spirooli and am totally sa…
