  • I've always been told that I eat too much fiber (either by friends, family and even doctors) but I have zero symptoms of it. If I cut back, I feel just the same way. If I add more, still the same. Just do what your body is capable of.

  • Thanks for the welcome! And I just don't do well on a vegan diet. Not sure what it was, but I craved cheese like a maniac when I tried out veganism on several occasions. And I don't crave food. So for me, I'm perfectly happy being a vegetarian. Oh, …
  • I went 100% raw from Thanksgiving to Christmas last year and I think I went through the same things you are going through! I ended up finding that I personally am much happier at 75% raw. I can still go out and enjoy the social aspect of eating a co…

  • Sorry to hear about your kitty. It can be hard to make the best choices for our pets. I’ve read lots of books and finally came up with feeding my cat and dog an all raw diet. Right now I’m feeding my cat (and the dog) Nature’s Variety frozen medalli…
  • I use Nature’s Variety too for my cat and my dog. The dog also gets all sort of raw veggies that are left over from a meal. She loves mustard greens and carrots the most. I also give her probiotic yogurt (frozen in a hollow bone) because she has a t…
  • Locustgirl – I started eating raw because I had crazy bad digestive problems. I was looking for anything to help. Turns out I my gallbladder was infected and had to be removed a few months ago. But I noticed some great changes on raw food. My sense …
  • Carrots are really easy to grow and you can get heirloom varieties that have been around for over a hundred years and are not hybrids. Or are those varieties still forbidden in Wolfe’s philosophy? I’m not familiar with it.

  • Glad to see there are so many gardeners on here! This year my goal is, once again, to grow all of the vegetables for my household (two of us). We get close, but it always seems like there is way too much squash and not enough corn or something like …

  • jgfergus – you mentioned that no animals in the wild eat onions or garlic. I’d like to counter that view with some anecdotal evidence. Raccoons dig up my onions and eat them. My chickens LOVE green onions and chives. And my dog will grab a bulb of g…

  • This isn’t a home remedy, but just another piece of information for you to think about. A good friend of mine suffered terribly from recurrent UTIs. She went to many different doctors and tried all sorts of different things, but they always came bac…

  • Usually, when my smoothies have more then 3 ingredients, it’s because there was a bunch of stuff in the fridge that needed to be used up. These smoothies never taste “right”. My friends have started calling them my “compost smoothies” and they won’t…
  • I believe the main point of “fasting” is to give the digestive system a rest. Smoothies still contain all the fiber from the fruits/veggies and your digestion will be just the same. I too have seen references to drinking smoothies on the juice feast…
  • I’m not a big fan of any dried fruit. I wish we could get fresh ones here so that I could see what they ‘really’ taste like!

  • Welcome Lauren! I’m fairly new around here, so I’ll give you my beginner’s view. 1. I’ve checked a lot of books out of the library about being raw. If you are in a decent sized city, there should be several there. I’ve also purchased three. I have t…

  • Munchie, I was eating healthy compared to SAD for sure. I only ate out a few times a month and 75% of my food has always been organic when prepared at home. I’ve been a vegetarian my whole life (except for while in college when I desperately tried t…

  • And what if you never have detox symptoms? I’ve been 100% raw for 20 days now and nary a headache nor a skin eruption has been seen! I’ve done juice fasts in the past and my tongue has never been coated or anything. Can I really be that clean? Or am…

  • It costs nearly the same for me. I haven’t changed my buying habits hardly at all. I used to buy some raw cheeses at the farmers market but instead, now I buy more nuts. I bet it evens out. I used to buy wheat berries to grind to make my own bread, …

  • I’m new to raw and just had my first restaurant experiences this weekend. My boyfriend’s mom came into town and we ate out lunch and dinner for 3 days! Almost every where, I had to resort to the “dinner salad” which consists of iceberg lettuce and t…

  • I’ve done it with kale. Kale is less bitter when it experiences a freeze before harvesting. Since I live in Texas, I simulate this by tossing the kale in the freezer after I pick it from the garden to use the next day. I get stuck in my little routi…

  • My consistent crowd pleaser is the beet ravioli from Raw Food Real World. Doesn’t really go well with tacos either, but I bet the chef would be impressed! Even people that say they hate beets have like it …if I can get them to try it. Might be a pro…
  • I’m new to raw (day 19!) so I’m not an expert. I don’t eat many fruits either. I’ve never had a sweet tooth and now fruits taste way too sweet most of the time. I generally use carrot juice to offset the flavor of greens for smoothies, or I’ll add a…
  • When I eat (cooked) spinach soup, I get that weird throat tingle. Maybe it’s the oxalic acid?

  • Weird…never had that happen to me! What kind of greens? I’ve used kale, collards, lettuce, spinach and bok choy. The last two are my favorite by far as the flavor is not very strong and you don’t have to add much fruit.

  • I think knowing the source of the food is much better and makes you feel more comfortable with your food choices. I have frequently been grossed out by milk from the store that seems “off” or that I know is from a factory farm. And to tell you the t…
  • Hahaha! I still love milk, eggs and cheese!!! My body is still not convinced that raw vegan is the way to go. Plus I was raised milking goats and planned on getting some next year and I still think I might! I currently have chickens and I’ve never c…
  • I have several and have checked a few more out of the library. I have to admit that the book that has consistently provided delicious recipes is Raw Food Real World. BUT, I would not say that they foods are “sort of normal”! And they usually take a …
  • I didn’t start raw food for that reason, but I’ve read a lot about others adventures. I’ve found my senses enhanced (I’m only on day 18!), especially my sense of smell. I can see how a spiritual person would embrace this as part of becoming more awa…
  • I helped my mom with cooking classes long ago (maybe 20 years!) and we did it in an elementary school with a kitchen that was already “approved”. I’d imagine that if you aren’t “cooking” then you don’t have to use a commercial kitchen. I’m not sure …

  • JoyceH, I have a MIU mandoline – and I’m going to have to thank my mom again for it – it’s about $100! I like it a lot – but I haven’t tried any others, so I can’t comment on any comparisons.
