Feebee45's Thoughts

This sandwich tastes delicious and you can make it any way you want it. I added cilantro to russell james’ bread recipe. This is a modification of a sandwich on the cafe menu at Karyn’s Raw in Chicago, Illinois. Raw Bread Recipe: http://therawchef.blogs.com/russell_james/2006/03/the_best_thing_.html

I thought it was just me who noticed the sub-par service. I mean, just make the sandwich!! Yes, I agree that Cousins is a little beneath Karyn's in terms of creativity. I went there in June and went hog-wild at the salad bar. Had the swiss chard and thought I'd puke, but had to put on a brave face b/c I was there with my sister and, well, advocating this! Now that you mention it, the desert WAS a bit off, but still can't place my finger on what exactly was wrong with it. I did like their zucchini noodles. I know what you mean about finding this food elsewhere. I think we all say 'I can do this', run out, realize we can't, then run back in. Besides, I don't have the time for all the things I'd love to make, so I'll just wait for Javier to take his sweet time and make all my things. I'm still debating going there for Thanksgiving, and am 'afraid' to tell my husband :). He's off the opinion that the food isn't worth the $$. I have several weeks to wear him down, though, right??

I had not tried their brownie. They lost the recipe, that doesnt suprise me with that place. They do have the worlds worst service. I would not go there and give them any of my hard earned money if their food wasnt SO GOOD and IMPOSSIBLE to find anywhere else (i dont think cousin's is NEARLY as good/creative).

I still miss their brownie--it was the best. They told me they lost the recipe; how do you do that?? I've made brownies from this site which were good, but still not the same,so,I understand about the carob cake. They have 'cheesecakes' now, too (chocolate!) which are good and you can make them into a few servings. I live on her food, too, and think that by now I must have eaten my weight in raw sandwiches, salads, and deserts, not to mention kale chips. I stock up once a week and anticipate going back when I get paid again. And they call Whole Foods 'Whole Paycheck'.

Hi - THAT is a picture of the carob oat cake - which i have been TRYING to duplicate for a YEAR ! i cant get it. i just can not do it. I dont understand. I know what is in it - but i cant duplicate that consistency. it is my favorite food in the entire world. i did a pretty good duplication of the carob mint - but the oat - no dice. i really need someone to help me figure that one out!

I actually have not had the egg salad sandwich there yet - but i will get it and see what i can do. I always get the sun burger (have them make it in the restaurant and take it to go) - it is my favorite food also. Basically i get a sun burger and oat cake and it's the best meal to me. i could eat it 24/7 - but then i'd be broke!

Feebee, I live in Chicago, too, and frequent Karyn's. I got it in my head to try to duplicate her 'egg salad' sandwich and went as far as to buy a young coconut, which sat in the fridge until I had to through it out. If you can figure that one out, tell me!! Until then, I'm afraid I have to pay for the darn thing, but I try to make it last as long as I can. By the way, is that a pic of her carob mint cake???

This sandwich is $10 at the raw cafe. I could not buy it that often so I had to figure out how to make it on my own. I havent figure out how much the ingredients were all together, but the batch of bread I made, i can make at least 18 slices of bread.
