I've been on a raw diet for 17 days now. I really don't know how I found you but, I'm happy I did. For the last couple of days I've tried a few things ( breakfast bowl , green drink today yummie!!!!!! .
Now, as I type and sip. I made the Raw Chocolate Shake.... OMG... GOOD!!!!
I took the suggestions from the other post and added mine... I'm not a cook by far!!!! Believe me I'm not . The few things that I've learned I went to mixing. Because I like creamy .. I used
1/2 of cashew milk ( your receipt )
1/2 cup of ice ( probably more)
1/4 avocado
Then added the rest of your receipt . I really think I can do Raw because of you.
Thank You ,Thank You....

Just to rock everybody's world, botanically the cashew is a seed, not a nut. Crazy health fact hey?! Cashews are marketed to the general population as a nut...probably because the phrase "roasted nuts" is more appealing to most than "roasted seeds". For me though seeds are not just for the birds!
So technically this recipe is a tasty nut free recipe, it just depends what health circle you follow! (^∇^)☆☆☆☆☆

This is so delicious! I used to make something similar in the colder months with tahini and vanilla instead of cashews; warmed a little, it's very comforting on a cold day.

Exploit bees?!?! LOLOLLLLL! They make honey whether we use it or not, and this is using their natural resources, a product they already make. Beekeeping is GOOD for hive health and colony development! Comments like this are why so many people roll their eyes when they hear "I'm a vegan." Do you live in Portland, too?

To the author of this recipe, thank you for sharing such wonderful recipes. I am currently loving on them. I would like to note that this is listed in the "nut-free" section, but it's not nut-free. :) Thanks again for your thoughtful sharing.

So I take it you are not a vegan cause based on what you said then the dairy farmer has all the right to take a mothers milk cause "They make...milk... whether we use it or not, and this is using their natural resources, a product they already make. dairy farming is GOOD for ...cows...health and...herd... development!"
See what I did there.
It makes no difference if it's something they make anyway. The point is that they did not make it for US. They make it for themselves and what right do we have stealing it!
It's a fair request, to not misrepresent ones self. She could have put honey or vegan alternative in the recipe.

You should be some research of what veganism means. If she (Rawtarian) use the term "vegan" in her blog, she can't use/promote honey. Period.

Honey is not vegan (it's the same silly opinion of vegetarians can use/promote fish, fish is not vegetarian). End of discussion.

And "rolling eyes" are not relevant. Really. Who cares.

I have been doing something very similar to this for me and my kids. I do a couple of things different: 1) I use frozen bananas (cut up to minimize the wear on the blender), and I sweeten with a very small amount of stevia. The bananas are actually pretty sweet on their own (we freeze them at maximum ripeness) but the stevia takes the sweetness to the "Ice Cream" threshold.

Great recipe! However, I am really trying to stay away from any sweeteners outside the fruit pyramid. therefore, i substituted the honey for one pitted date. it turned out delicious and my two year old loved it! anything healthy my child likes is alright by me. Thanks for the recipe!

Hi David, great tip! You can generally substitute water for ice - but you need to add more ice than water since water expands when frozen :)

As always, another one of your recipes that looks delicious and simple. Unfortunately, I have an allergy to bananas. Do you have any recommendations for substituting bananas in your recipes? And advocados are also out -- trying to work my way around my body's severe reactions to foods that are a staple in the raw food diet.

Hi Amy, in general it is not a good idea to substitute one thing for another in a recipe since it invariably messes things up a bit. I suggest looking for a different recipe that does not contain what you can't eat. :) In general, bananas and avocados tend to be used for creaminess. So if you CAN eat cashews you could look for recipes that contain cashews in them since they are good for creaminess. Hope this helps somewhat!

This was a great shake! Been raw for 14 days now, and counting. So many of your recipes have been winners and aren't as time consuming as other raw chefs. Thank you so much!
Note for shake* I like my shakes a little creamy and cold, like soft serve, so I put my banana in the freezer for an hour and I use some almond milk in place of water. Very yummy!

Hi Lily,  Glad you are enjoying my simple, satisfying recipes! I love your idea of popping the banana in the freezer first. I usually keep some peeled bananas in the freezer at all times - but not too many at once cause they tend to get freezer burn after a while :)

I agree about the watery comment. But if you use 1 cup of ice and 1/2 cup of water (or almond milk for a bit more creamyness) the results are much more shake-like. And I like a bit more cocoa powder too. My measurements are estimates as I pretty much just eyeballed it.

Anyway, thanks for the recipe a good starting point for sure.

I am not sure if you have these where you live, but try to blend it with brazil nut/date milk and a "mamey"...and get rid of the agave nectar.

I have seen other organic cocoa powders at wholefoods that seem pretty good at wholefoods, not expensive. you can also use super seed powder by Garden of Life ...

ok now I want one!!!
