Oh ho hum, another smoothie recipe, right?  Wrong!

This raw strawberry milk recipe is divine. Trust me. The texture is wonderful. Sirova, the recipe's originator, compares the taste to standard strawberry milk--that thick, syrupy smooth sweetness. Yum! This recipe really does take me back to my childhood.

Warning:

Do not attempt unless you have a Vitamix, a Blendtec, or another high-powered blender! Chia seeds won't blend well in a regular blender.

This recipe is perfect for a Summer evening. And great for kids, they'll love it.

True to Rawtarian fashion, it only has just a few ingredients. When it comes to this raw strawberry milk recipe, simpler really is better.

I have a blender thats not a vitamix etc but is a fairly good average blender. I can do recipies like this in it. I just grind nuts first then add the rest of the ingredients, bit by bit if necessary. Chia seeds etc can be ground in a coffee grinder first as well.

Great tips! Truly. Totally agree about liquids first, with the hardest things on top.

Also, I totally did the same thing with my blender. I think I burned out two crappy ones motors before I got my Vitamix, which I had to save up for :)

Hi,

Are you suppose to soak the chia seeds first? I tried blending in vitamix but the seeds didn't blend up, stayed black and splattered all over the blender sides.

Hi Jennie, no soaking is required. Next time you could get the mixture blending and smoothie like, then stop, add chia seeds, and continue blender. It sounds like your blender isn't the greatest :)

HI APRIL AND JENNIE, WHAT I DO IS SOAK MY CHIA SEEDS IN WATER FOR 15 MINUTES, THAT SOFTENS THEM UP, THEN I POUR THE LOT IN THE BLENDER

Yes, ground chia seeeds would work exactly the same if your blender isn't quite as good. :) Either is fine

Okay, that was a silly question. I just went back and read where you said you should not use fresh. As I only have fresh, I will try to cut out a bit of the water called for and add ice in its stead.

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it will be delicious even with a slight alteration. I just got a Vitamix blender over the weekend, so I need to make more recipes like this to make my husband a believer :). Thank you so much for your site. It is wonderful and so helpful! Delicious! Really sweet too! I only used 2 Tb of honey instead of 3 and that was definitely sweet enough for me! I am just starting out using chia seeds and used my normal blender (but on the 'ice' option) and they blended up fine - made the smoothie a lovely thick consistency :) i really like the use of the chia seeds in this, its giving me more ideas on how i can incorporate them into my daily foods. Thanks so much! :D

Thanks for the recipe :) I have made a slight alteration; used 2 Medjool dates instead of the agave. I have a Vitamix.. I use it at least 3 x every day :) I could not live without it! Love your website. Have a GREAT day.

I am excited to try this, but wondered if flax would be an adequate substitute to chia (I don't have them, live in a small town, and know they are expensive, even when/if I find them). I may try it one way or the other!

Unfortunately, I do not recommend using flax as a substitute because the flax flavor will overpower the tastes.

i would omit the chia seeds entirely. The recipe will be a lot runnier, but that's okay. You could also maybe add dates instead to thicken it up a bit.

**sigh** so many of these recipes look good, but either require a high speed blender (don't own) or have nuts (nut-free school).

I have a regular blender and this recipe works fine in it. The key to some of these recipes is to put the liquid in first, with the solids floating on top. It works for me anyway! (I actually keep putting off buying one because I haven't really run into problems yet).

Yes, it's tough! If you can afford it, you should definitely plan to get a high-speed blender. In the very least, keep your eye out for a used one. They make all the difference in the world! At least put it on your Christmas list :)

This was yummy thanks! I made it tonight. The only difference I made to the recipe was using 2 Tb of sweetener instead of 3 since I like things on the less sweet side. A recipe to keep!
