This cashew-based raw ranch dressing is one of my most popular savory recipes. It really tastes like ranch! Just blend and serve. It keeps well too.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Don't believe me that this could taste as good as old-school SAD (standard American diet) ranch? Just try it. I dare ya :)

Raw ranch dressing is another one of those things that I cannot believe it's possible to replicate raw. But, hallelujah, it is possible.

There is nothing like a nice fresh carrot dipped in raw ranch dressing, no?

And I have even had the pleasure of dipping my raw vegan pizza in raw ranch dressing. "Cue heavenly harp sound...."

So here's my favourite raw ranch dressing recipe for you... I use it basically like a normal salad dressing or dip. I usually make one batch and serve it as a vegetable dip, salad dressing and maybe even on a few more exciting things, like in a raw vegan BLT sandwich or dip raw pizza in it if I am feeling particularly daring.

Of course, you also know that the best vegetables to dip in raw ranch dressing are carrots and broccolli, right?

Are you suppose to soak the cashews, or just throw in dry?

I love this recipe too!! I've made it about 5 times now! My husband and I grew up on ranch dressing. We smeared it on everything! Now that we are dairy and gluten free we were missing it and didn't even know it. Tonight I made it to put on kale that I'll be dehydrating. I'm curious to see how it turns out. Thanks so much!

OMG! This is the best raw dressing I have tried to date! I have been having a hard time finding a good one. I left out the olive oil to make it less fattening since it already had so many cashews and I found it to be just perfect! I also used only one tbsp of maple syrup and it was just sweet enough. I think 3 would have overdone it. Thank you so much for all of your creative yet simple recipes! We will be having a huge garden salad tonight with this dressing and cream of celery soup! So excited!

I adore this recipe. I make it all the time and eat a huge salad every day with this delicious ranch dressing. It really does taste like regular ranch dressing. Because I don't have a high-speed blender, I use my food processor. I process the cashews first to a nut butter consistency then add the other ingredients and process. I am curious if anyone has tried omitting the sweetener altogether and if it worked okay?

Holy Guacamole this is good! I made mine with raw cashew butter I bought last week. Good thing too cause I don't own a high speed blender and I killed a food processor trying to make almond butter in the past. I only used 1/3 of the agave syrup though, this cashew butter is made with coconut oil so it's sweet on its own. Here's the link for anyone interested http://www.paleocottage.com/#!product/prd1/1877947785/cashew-butter

this is the first actual raw dressing i actually love, all the other i have been making i like them eat them but they are too plain, but this one omg! its delicious, i did soaked the cashews since i wasn't sure, and it was a bit liquidy so i added some more dry and i did not used olive oil ( since cashews are quite fatty already) and cut the maple syrup and salt to half, i only had fresh dill to which i added extra cause i love it, and extra lime ( didnt have lemon)some black pepper, and instead of 2 garlic cloves i added 1 fresh clove and some garlic powde... i loved it!! thank you!!

I made this today for my family with the hope of finding a healthier alternative for my ranch dressing loving family. overall, i think it has some wonderful flavors. however, my 3 boys all complained that it was too sweet and tasted almost like bleu cheese dressing. i'm a little bummed because now they won't eat it (i will though!). do you have any suggestions on how to make this already made portion less sweet? next time, i will use only a fraction of the sweetener.

I have been majorly missing ranch dressing since going vegan and this is AMAZING - with no guilt! I don't have a high speed blender so I used a food processor. It came out a little runny with the cashews not super-smooth, which worked fine for salads but next time I will try processing the cashews to cashew butter first then adding the rest of the ingredients, which will hopefully make it smoother and thicker. Even as-is though it is wonderful and helping me enjoy my salads.

Hi Chrissi, So glad you like and have shared! I totally know what you mean about halving. Some recipes just can't be halved, either due to flavour or even because they get too small and won't blend/process.

Your broc and cauliflower florets marinated and dehydrated sounds really yummy. What did you marinate them in?

Hello!

To every 500g/1.2lb of small broccoli and cauliflower florets you add the following -
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons good olive oil
1 tablespoon homemade Nama Shoyu

I let mine marinade for a couple of hours with a couple of 'hand massages' every now and then. I then dehydrated it until it was crunchy (about four hours on low). I put the florets directly on the mesh tray in the dehydrator and the florets got quite small in size but with heaps of flavour that paired well with the creamy ranch dressing and zuke noodles. Russel James gets credit for the marinade and brocolli, I just added the cauliflower to the recipe!

Homemade Nama Shoyu Recipe - replaces tamari and salt in lots of recipes. Lasts over a week in fridge. Am going to freeze small portions of it to see if that works as a way to preserve it for longer.
Ingredients:

1 large portabello mushroom
1 tablespoon good salt
2 cups filtered water
Preparation:

Place the mushroom and salt in the blender with 1/2 cup of the water. Blend on high speed for 10 seconds, slowly add the remaining water through the top while continuing to blend. You may wish to strain the liquid to remove any mushroom chunks. I did not strain it as my blender pulverised it sufficiently. Jennifer Murray gets the credit for this recipe!

Thanks for being so inspirational L-J.

I made this recipe with honey instead of agave and cut it down to 2 tablespoons. It was SO SWEET; almost like a dessert sauce. Ick. I had to add another cup of cashews and more olive oil, etc and ended up with a ridiculous amount of ranch dressing. I also added fresh cilantro in hopes of it taking some of the sweetness out. Practice caution with your sweeteners everyone!

This is truly amazing! Thank you so much, I have been looking for an awesome Ranch dressing and here it is! Just made this and I think I am getting Ranch on the keyboard...had to stick my fingers in the salad bowl when done. I did use a little less water so it was a bit thick and will serve well for a dip. Heck, in a few days I can run it thru the blender again with more water and make it last (yeah, right, this is so good it might be all gone toady!). I used 1/4 cup hempseed oil instead of 1/3 olive oil, and organic maple syrup. I am amazed. Miss Rawatarian lady - Thank you, thank you.

I just made this and it is amazing!! I don't care for ACV, but know it is important for it to taste correct so I cut it to 1 TBS and added 1tsp of pepper. Wonderful!!!!! Just what I have been looking for. My husband and I went fully raw 2 months ago and our youngest daughter (9) is 90% raw, but my other daughter (18) wont eat anything in the fruit, veggie, nut and seed category, she is such a rebel lol. I am happy to report she told me she will be having a big salad with us for dinner if I use this dressing on it! Thank you so very much! I have been using many of your wonderful recipes and it has made it easy for us to get our life back!!! PS along with a LONG list of other disease and ailments we are both no longer considered diabetic!!!! Hugs!

This is a fabulous recipe. My Kids usually run when I mention RAW but they tried it and couldn't believe how good it was. We dipped fresh broccoli spears, celery, purple carrots and spring onions (lightly covered in celtic sea salt) into it and it was sensational.

I skipped on the dill and the sweetener and used slightly less water, 5 tablespoons of lemon, 3 large cloves garlic and half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper.

Thank you Rawtarian :)

Hi Blackie, you paired it with the perfect veggies too! I usually am not a huge broc fan but this recipe just goes really well with broc for some reason.

If your little ones tend to run for the hills maybe you need to reverse-psychology them - "nope, nope, this recipe isn't raw. no sirree bob!"

WOW! This was my first raw condiment recipe and I was pretty skeptical...I love ranch...it's my weakness. First batch...amazing! My husband loved it too! I like A LOT of flavor so I tweaked the recipe a little. More garlic, more herbs, tons of fresh cracked black pepper, waaaay less honey and 1/2 the ACV. I've already told my friends about the site. YOU ROCK!! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Richard, In my recipes you do not need to soak/dehydrate unless I specifiy to do so in the recipe :) Nuts should be dry (unless I clearly state otherwise). Hope this helps!

I'm just getting started on an unprocessed diet, and I am a ranch FIEND! Let me tell you, this is a Godsend. I used about 1/4 cup vinegar and didn't have any lemon juice on hand at the time I made it, but added more dill and some oregano and it turned out quite lovely.

I used this as my FIRST raw dish the second was brownies ;) I was trying to make a small batch so I got a little to much garlic but it was great anyway I will be makeing this a TON. I also added this to the myfitnesspal.com and the cals are 138 for 2tb if it makes 1.5 cups for the whole batch. Classic Hidden Valley has 140 for the same amount, but yours isn't "empty" calories as thier is. thanks!

Hi Dario,

Yes, using the entire recipe on one serving is definitely too much. I eat very large, meal sized salads and this recipe lasts for approx 4  big salads for me. It definetly does depend on the size of your salad though.

Hope this helps!

OMG This is INCREDIBLE! I have to be honest, Ive made raw recipes from other websites that turned out very mediocre but every time I make something from here it is delicious! Like some of the other comments I only added half the amount of apple cider or even less. This makes staying raw so much easier. Thank you!

This is a pretty good recipe but I wouldn't suggest using any sweetener (honey or agave) and I also would strongly suggest to either cut back A LOT on apple cider vinegar or don't use it at all.

If you're making a raw mayo I would say you'd need the apple cider vinegar for that but not for raw ranch. Just doesn't jive well. Way too vinegary.

This is absolutely delicious I take a bowl of cut up vegetables to work but find it all a bit boring so have been trying different dipping sauces. This consistency was a bit thin for dipping so next time will use a bit less water. I think it is also very high in calories but I guess if I just eat a little a day it should be ok. I am new to your site and am also making Chia Seed tapioca I cut down on both recipes the amount of cashews (watching calories) THANKYOU BOTH RECIPES DELICIOUS. Can't wait to try more

OK---I just made that second batch, and I can re-confirm that the vinegar level is spot on!

The only additions I made were a dash of Herbamare, a dash of TJ's 21 Seasoning Salute, and a dash of crushed red pepper. (That's my lucky trinity that I add to all my savory creations.) And, I used raw honey instead of agave.

I just put the bottle of the dressing in the fridge to set and chill, and I had to use all my will power to refrain from chugging it!

One year update: (Funny, I just decided to make this dressing again, and I saw that I made my last comment about in a year [and a day] ago!)

If you add a red bell pepper to the mix, you get a Thousand Island Dressing! (Who needs Kraft anyway?!?)

Hi Laura-Jane,

I just saw your comment as I re-visted this page to make yet another batch of your kick-a$$ ranch dressing! (I starting craving it on my bike ride, and I knew I had to make it when I got home!)

To answer your question--I did not find the dressing too vinegary at all. I'm a fan of apple cider vinegar and its bite, so maybe I'm a bit bias, but I thought the acidity level was just right.

Time to make some more!

Let the salad inhalation begin....
