The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

No equipment  required for this easy raw recipe.

Your coconut oil must be liquified and clear in order to properly stir together. (If your coconut oil is white and hard, just warm it up first and it will liquify very quickly.)

These pancakes are extremely heavy and rich so reserve for special occasions! I actually can only handle one pancake to myself. You can easily halve this recipe.

You must use ground/milled flax seeds - not whole flaxseeds! (In other words, this is more like using "flour" than using "oats" if you get my drift!)

Banana actually goes surprisingly well with these pancakes.

Raw pancake recipe

My daughter & I love these pancakes! we top with thawed berries from the freezer and just a tiny drizzle of real maple syrup. After being in the fridge a while they make a nice finger-snack to take along on trips. I also tried dehydrating one last night along with my apple chips and I really like how it turned out! I didn't dry it out too much, just enough to make it a little less messy & a little more portable. I also like how extremely simple they are. Sometimes we will add a flavor, like cinnammon, vanilla, orange zest, etc. to get more variety of flavor.

These were delicious!! Made them this morning for my mama and I..she enjoyed as well. :) The only thing I goofed on was accidentally adding too much honey - my heart has been doing cartwheels since after breakfast lol

Raw pancake recipe

My pancake mixture turned out too pasty. I could only eat it it once and had to throw it away after that. For me this does not resemble a pancake at all in texture or flavor. Very disappointed because I love all of the other raw tarian recipes. I was craving pancakes so when I saw this recipe I jumped for joy because I didn’t have a dehydrator. When I tasted it I did not like it at all.

Hi Vindri - yes, I have to agree that these are super FLAXY - this is an older recipe of mine and has too strong of a flax-flavour, I have to agree.

In my new cookbook, Cook Lively, I have a really good pancake recipe that you can make in your oven :)

I would love it if you could lighten these up a bit with some .... psyllium?
Or a mixture of psyllium and puree, say banana?

I’m no good at experimenting (I’m a theoretician) so it’s over to you .....

Everything's better with a little (or a lot) of maple syrup on it ;)

I tried making these tonight and while they did have a good initial flavor, the flaxseed aftertaste was a bit overwhelming. I'm going to try making these again another night but do 1/2 the flaxseed and replace the other 1/2 with almond meal.

I don't know what I did wrong; I got clumpy mush :( the only thing I can think of that i did wrong per se was I mixed with a fork instead of a spoon. But even after I switched to a spoon I still can't seem to get the mixture to hold any sort of shape. I melted my coconut oil and used store bought flax seed meal. I didn't have any syrup so I used honey instead.

Temperature issue probably - is it cold in your house and the coconut oil might have hardened again?

It was solid originally, so I measured out my oil then warmed it up for a minute in my microwave in 30 second intervals and once the oil was 100% liquid I imediatly dumped it in with everything else and mixed it together.

Warm virgin coconut oil gently in a dehydrator at under 119 degrees F to keep it raw. A microwave cooks it and then it is not raw.

Yeah, I decided to stop the laziness and bought some ground flaxseed... It was amazing with your banana and chocolate recipe!!
Thank you very much :D
