1 cup pecans (you can use walnuts in a pinch, but pecans are much better!)
1 cup dates
5 tablespoons raw cacao (cocoa) powder
4 tablespoons shredded unsweetened coconut
2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Directions
1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!
I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.
My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)
You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.
Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about six small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)
Without further ado, here's my favorite uber-delicious and simple raw brownie recipe.

These were absolutely divine! I subbed almonds for the pecans and they were still perfect. It took me 10 minutes to prepare them (8 spent removing the pits from the dates) and all that I had for dishes were the 3 pieces from the food processor a measuring cup and a tablespoon. I love raw "baking"!

Wow! This one's a keeper. I might try to substitute cacao powder to cacao nibs. CHOFFY offers an all natural organic good for your health cacao nibs.

I substituted dates for prunes, but it wasn't particularly good... however, i tried again and omitted it altogether ... was delicious! Also did the same version with added banana chips and another tablespoon of agave .... THE BEST YET!

I just started a raw diet (lifestyle, really) and these are FANTASTIC! I made one batch, tasted them, and because it was SO quick and easy, I made a second batch right away. My two little boys LOVE them as well! Thanks so much!

ALOT! More than box mix brownies. You can go to CalorieKing and put in all the ingredients to get the exact count. I forget what it was but I wish I had done it prior to making them because I would have never eaten them.

Hi, Laura-Jane,
I made your raw brownie recipe today with my almost 3 year old daughter. It turned out amazingly awesome. I used walnuts, coconut, and soaked the dates, but omitted the honey. My other daughter, who won't eat regular brownies, said that she LOVED these. Thanks a lot! I will highly recommend them! Jennifer

Dear Laura-Jane,
I really loved these--my first try at a raw, vegan dessert. My three year old helped to make them, and my ten year old, who does not ever eat brownies, loved these. Thanks a lot! I will highly recommend them to others.

They're in the refrigerator as I type! I snuck a bite of the batter - just enough to get me salivating for more. One tip to anyone reading: when pressing into the pan, covering the mix with wax or parchment paper makes it easier to press to a nice, smooth finish (unless you want a lot of finger indentations in the top!).

Reblogged this. Made this recipe twice already. I do not have raw cocoa so I used baking cocoa. The first time I did not have shredded coconut so I used oats. Each time they turned out delicious. Served it to little kids and they agreed it's very tasty. Love this recipe.

Just made the raw chocolate brownies and IM A HUGE FAN!! They do indeed taste like the real deal :)) I didn't have shredded coconut so I used coconut oil to make it a little more moist, but added a tad bit too much and became little oily. Oh well, first time making raw recipes and I'm learning every step of the way.
All in all, I'll never go back to buying any vegan brownies outside anymore!!
p.s by the way, I'm not a raw vegan but I'm converting into a vegetarian at the moment :)

Made the brownies today. They are delicious. Judged my dates to be less than moist so soaked them in warm water for about 15 minutes and drained them. Added 1/2 tsp vanilla bean powder for another layer of depth. Thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe.

Thanks! Trying a Clean Eating approach and I am intrigued by anything RAW. I am making them as we speak. There is not a huge selection of organic food where I live but I did manage to find the dates, although they are mostly dried out. I put them in water hoping to rehydrate them somewhat. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I just made these brownies and put them in my standard 8"x8" tin but the mixture didn't even touch the sides and was as thin as a wafer! I had to search my cupboards for a tiny container. You don't say how many servings this recipe makes.

Mind. Blown. These brownies, my raw star, are otherworldly. Love the addition of the sea salt. And you're right, the pecans make it. I added some unprocessed chopped walnuts too for nut-brownies. Just another of your amazingly easy and delicious raw recipes for the win! Off to make some now!

Pecans are best in this recipe, but walnuts or possibly sunflower seeds or brazil nuts might work okay or a combo of all of the above. Shredded coconut will not properly replace the nuts in this recipe

Hi,
I'm looking forward to trying this recipe. Looks delish! I was wondering if these brownies can travel. I'm considering making them for a friend overseas and probably using FedEx (2 or 3 day shipping). Should I put them in the freezer before to keep them colder longer while in transit?
Thanks!

The BIG issue that you are going to encounter is that the icing (if you ice them) will get all liquidy and melty and probably be a big mess when mailing.
If you do NOT ice them they will probably travel okay. Do not freeze, just refrigerate before mailing. Probably keep them in one big dish and then tell the recipient to refrigerate upon arrival and then slice before eating.
