Recipe Directions

blend the celery, garlic, olive oil and peas with the lime and seasonings, then stir in parlsey and onion and adjust seasonings, wash and cut your collard into rollable lengths, and fill with blended ingredients …I added a touch of spicey pickle relish to mine, and some raw olives and salad greens. I served it with avo and sunchoke “chips”

Any good southerner knows that eating greens and peas on new years day brings luck and wealth…traditionally a hearty soup stewed all day with a large ham bone, this pure southern comfort is served with chow chow( spicey/sweet corn relish) green onions and corn bread. I fixed both versions(hubby got the “healthy” non ham bone variety soup) the raw version while untraditional I hope will net the same results for our new year!

my grannys chow chow recipe was a secret, but i believe she used her bread and butter pickle spices on the corn with some vinegar and minced hot peppers then she let it "set" until it pickled about a month or so...

Do you have a recipe or guidelines for Chow Chow. I guess is could be very naturally raw, huh? Thanks,I love black eyed peas and collards-any way I can get them.

Hi Omshanti - I'd love to try this sometime. Could I use anything else in lieu of the celery? I just can't seem to get myself to like it :-)

That sounds great! I never would have thought of sprouting black eyed peas! Do they taste fresh or starchy? How long did you sprout them for? I had collard rolls yesterday too!- Except mine had grated jicama, yellow pepper, carrot, avocado and red onion. Happy New Year Omshanti!
