Raw breakfast cereal recipe
1 chopped apple (Gala is my favorite)
1 tablespoon raisins
1/8 cup almonds
1 tablespoon sunflower seeds
1 tablespoon buckwheat groats
1 dash cinnamon
Cashew milk poured on top
Directions
Simply assemble in a cereal bowl. You don't have to be exact with your measurements, but you should try to include the chopped apple and the buckwheat groats. Pour cashew milk on top and consume immediately.
This serves one. Sometimes I'll have two bowls (two servings) if I'm hungry :)
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
Good morning,
I am having this for raw breakfast cereal recipe on the weekends these days. I tend to have green smoothies on weekdays when I am in a rush, and raw breakfast cereal on the weekends when I have more time for a treat.
This raw breakfast cereal recipe reminds me a bit of Alpen or granola, but it's raw and quick to prepare as long as you have cashew milk in the fridge. I don't always have cashew milk on the go, but I made a big batch lately so I've been enjoying this raw breakfast cereal recipe while the cashew milk lasts.

This is a perfect example of an easy US recipe that won't fly in rural Nicaragua. If there is an apple it is imported and expensive. (That's the easy part--lots of other fresh fruit here.) But, no buckwheat groats, no almonds (even though they grow here), possibly no sunflower seeds (even though we buy them for our parrot) and no cashew milk even though people sell hand-toasted cashews on the street.
Amazing and cheap stuff here but it is just different.

I have just begun to embrace the raw food lifestyle. Your website is super-helpful and full of delicious recipes that I can't wait to try. When you prepare this cereal recipe, are the buckwheat groats soaked?

Curious to know if you just prefer cashew milk over almond milk, or if there is a specific reason you drink it over almond milk?

Yes, there is a reason and it's due to laziness. :)
Almond milk you have to strain with a nut bag. Cashew milk = no straining

I'm new to your blog!!! I love your quick recipes. Do you soak any of your raw nuts in your recipes? I've read in other raw books that they are better digested when soaked due to activating the enzymes.

Yes, they are better when they are soaked but, realistically, I very rarely soak except for when I explicitly state that you have to soak (for better blending or processing in afood processor).
Sometimes you will also have to soak if you have a crappy blender (to soften the nuts).

Oh, how long is the shelf life on buckwheat groats?

Long time! Similar to flour or rolled oats or that kind of thing. Keep in dry, dark cool place

I don't have buckwheat groats. Can I use oats?

I ended up using old fashioned oats instead of buckwheat and pine nuts instead of almonds...only because that's what I had in my house. It was yummy. I'll try the exact recipe soon when I go to the market. Thanks for the great recipe!

This is the BEST cereal I ever had!!!. I have been trying to eat vegetarian for a few months now, and have been very hesitant about raw. However, your wonderful recipes are making me a believer. The weight is just falling off of me. It's so hard to believe that fruits, vegetables and nuts can be so delicious and make a variety of foods that I thought I would have to give up. Thank you for your wonderful web site.

This does look fantastic. I'm a raw food newbie, I've never seen a buckwheat goat, but if it is like oat groats, isn't it really hard? How on earth can you just throw them into a bowl and nosh? Super excited to explore you site more, thanks in advance for helping newbies like myself.

Yes, they ARE very hard so you've got to watch your teeth. But if you let them sit in water for like, ten minutes or so (I usually put the groats and the water/cashew milk in the bowl FIRST, then I chop my apple and add the rest) - and by the time I am ready to eat they've softened a bit.

About the groats, I've never eaten them like that. I assumed you soaked/partially sprouted then dehydrated them -- they are quite light and crunchy that way, almost like a raw rice crispy. I'll have to try them as you suggest. I imagine they are more "meaty" they way you prepare them.

Yes, but I don't soak for too long so they do still retain some crispness :)

Nice to know they can be eaten like this. Tried them in my raw "cereal" this morning with some pecans and chia seeds. Not bad. Thanks!

My new favourite breaky with the cashew milk! I love to have a heartier breakfast once in a while and as I am only beginning to explore raw living, I was getting tired of smoothies most mornings! So thank you for this recipe!
