Rawmaiden's Thoughts

By rawmaiden

This fruit juice/smoothie is a great energizer to get your day going.

Beets cleanse the body and blood and is high in vitamin A.

Ginger is great for digestion and high in phytochemicals, and it also aids inflammation and improves circulation.

Cilantro is great for anxiety (yes it is), high in vitamin A, and potassium. So if you need extra vitamin A and energy, this is the drink for you!

This is a great energizer to get your day going, not to mention very delicious!

jillp...As for the grit, here is a possible solution. I started using my blender and a mesh "paint strainer" bag from Home Depot. I blend my goodies and then pour through the mesh bag and squeeze....viola! no more grit! It is sooo much easier than my juicer. In researching juicing alternatives I read that blending actually breaks down the cell walls of the veg and fruit and extracts more nutrients, compared to most centrifugal juicers. I know I get way more juice out of my produce! I know high speed blending adds air and my juice oxidizes faster, so it does not store as well, but since I have a centrifugal juicer, not a press or a gear juicer I don't think I lose much.

I made the smoothie version of this drink. I used 1 carrot, 1 celery stalk, 1 apple, 1 beet, 2 kiwis and a few pieces of ginger. It made enough to fill one large glass. The consistency is quite thick and gritty but it tastes pretty good.

yumm strawberries, the first time I made this I had some extra rasberries from my garden, last of the season, since I live in NY. And adding berries or substituting them in place of the kiwi's is great. The beets, apples and carrots are so sweet, so adding anything that will give it that tartness makes this drink perfect and ginger adds the kick : )

Incredible smoothie! The ginger really sets it off. I didn't have any kiwi, so i used a handful of blueberries, 1 carrot, 1 celery stalk, 1 appele, 1 beet, and about an inch knot of ginger. I rather enjoyed the thick consistency, as I believe in eating smoothies slowly, with a spoon when possible. Thank you for this delicious and healthy recipe. It will be one of my favorites.
