I am new to the raw food revolution. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I started out 15 years ago as a Lacto-Ovo vegetarian, then at one point my daughter and I became pescatarians which led us back to eating meat, and then eventually we were vegetarians again. Last year we became a vegan, but that change didn't really improve our waistlines. My blood pressure went up. Changing over to a low salt vegan diet reduced it temporarily, exercise reduced it a little more, but it keeps slowly creeping back up into the pre-hypertensive category. So my daughter, who is a real trooper, and I tried whole food plant based, but could never stay compliant. We kept eating too many processed foods (even minimally processed was too much), and sweets. I have a weakness for vegan sweet treats (cakes-cookies-ice creams you name it). I knew in order to get the processed foods and grains out of our lives we would need to go raw. This site popped up on my feed one night while I was searching through one of the many vegan groups I am a member of on Facebook. I was looking for healthy desserts. Once I started surfing the site I was hooked. It took my daughter a little time, but I knew once she put her book down (she is an avid reader) and actually paid attention to the site she would be hooked. I was right. She spent less than 30 minutes cruising the site and looking over the recipes before she was sold. What got us was the fact that we could still eat all the foods we love raw. I few months ago I invested in a dehydrator and have yet to use it. Although, we need a bigger food processor we have all the tools we need to get started and a few extras. So we are making the switch 100%. We cleared out foods we could give away and unfortunately threw out some things that were open and partially used. I struggled with the open packages but none of the food banks in our area will take open foods. We thought about giving it away to the homeless on the street, but handing out dried beans to someone with no stove seems cruel. So here we are, learning all that we can. I am so happy to be a part of this wonderful journey. This website is so well done and all the recipes look so simple and absolutely mouthwatering. We are in 100%.
