Recipe Directions

1. Melt the cacao butter or warm to soften by putting in a glass bowl over a pot of hot water.

2. Put the blueberries first, followed by all the other ingredients (except the cacao butter and cacao powder) into a Vitamix and blend. Add 1 1/2 cups water to get going.

3. Add in the cacao, with the mixer running, and finally add in the cacao butter. Add a little extra water if needed and blend until smooth.

4. Line a bowl or dish with plastic food wrap and pour in the chocolate mixture. Cover and allow to set in the fridge.

5. Turn out onto a plate and decorate with fresh fruits in season.

Sweetpea's Thoughts

By sweetpea

Velvety smooth chocolate cake. Low fat.

You can keep this cake in the fridge and just thaw out a piece when you want it.

It really is delicious. Enjoy!

mm, size of bowl, a medium, I guess the amount of mixture is about a pint and a half. I've put in quite alot of superfoods as I was individualising the cake for me!!

You can leave out the corn extract and maca. If you don't have hemp protein powder you can use some pumpkin, hemp, sunflower seed or nut. Cashews work nicely. I wanted to see if I could make a yummy cake without seeds or nuts.

Chocolate Orange Cake

5 out of 5

I've had this one saved for forever and just made it. Wish I'd made it sooner!! I skipped the purple corn extract since I don't have it, and did a heaping Tbsp of hemp seed nut instead of hemp protein powder. I tasted it before refrigerating and thought it needed a touch more sweet so I added 2 Tbsp agave since everything was already blended. Next time I will just do a few more dates. I love that there are lots of superfoods in this. Also only needed to add 1 cup of water. It has the most amazing texture and that subtle kick from the chili powder complements the other flavors wonderfully. Nicely done, sweetpea! I will be making this one again, thank you!

Angie, it is relatively low fat in percentage to the other ingredients. Most rawies generally use much more to make a chocolate cake more solid whereas this is thick set. It does not have any nuts in it either and again, many raw recipes use quite a lot of nuts/seeds/cacao in the recipe. I like to do 80% fruit or veggies in my recipes and use the minimum amount of fat to bind everything together.

Basically, you're making a rich fruit/cacao smoothie and adding some protein and fat to help it set.

This looks lovely and I so much appreciate a low-fat recipe!

Could you make this w/o purple corn extract (never even heard of it) and the macca? Could I use more cacao powder in lieu of the macca?

For the hemp powder, could I grind up hempseeds in a coffee grinder or just omit that indredient as well. Maybe substitute ground flax seeds instead?

I would love to make this soon w/o special ordering anything.

Again, many thanks for this. Looks gorgeous!
