The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

This is a super easy raw vinaigrette dressing recipe with a nice tangy taste.

If your honey is quite hard stir it as well as you can. Then the acid in the apple cider vinegar will start to break it down after a few hours. So if you are using it right away you may still have some hard honey chunks in there.

It keeps well. Stir or shake gently before using.

I love to use this recipe on my raw avocado dulse salad recipe (pictured). Details of that recipe are here.

I love this dressing! Quick and easy! Do you know how I'd calculate the serving size/nutrition info in it? I was thinking I'd just do the serving size of each ingredient and add it all together but I wasn't sure if that'd be the most accurate way. Just curious! Thanks for all your hard work, I love your recipes!

Hi Desirae,

You could use Bragg's Liquid Aminos instead, or optionally omit the soy sauce entirely.

As we were chatting about via email, raw sauce sauce is often called "nama shoyu." Here's an example of a bottle: http://tinyurl.com/cqf2qeg

Hope this helps!

Hello Laura-Jane,
I was thinking of making this for dinner salad tonight. Is there anything I could replace for the soy sauce?

Thanks,
Desirae

I saw the comment about eliminating the soy sauce and you recommended Braggs Liquid Aminos which also is soy. Since I am eliminating soy from my diet, I was thinking about trying coconut aminos. Have you ever tried that?

Hi Samadhiji, I've never used coconut aminos, but Brooke recently posted an ingenious homemade nama shoyu recipe here using mushrooms, which might be an even better substitution for you.

I haven't made this myself, but it sounds excellent. Again, I have Brooke to thank for this one from her comment on the raw ranch recipe!

"Homemade Nama Shoyu Recipe - replaces tamari and salt in lots of recipes. Lasts over a week in fridge. Am going to freeze small portions of it to see if that works as a way to preserve it for longer.

Ingredients:
1 large portabello mushroom
1 tablespoon good salt
2 cups filtered water

Preparation:
Place the mushroom and salt in the blender with 1/2 cup of the water. Blend on high speed for 10 seconds, slowly add the remaining water through the top while continuing to blend. You may wish to strain the liquid to remove any mushroom chunks. I did not strain it as my blender pulverised it sufficiently. Jennifer Murray gets the credit for this recipe! "

Raw vinaigrette dressing recipe
5
5 out of 5

Hi, and thanks for this site! I have been vegetarian for years, and am experimenting with a raw diet as I think that is my next step as I "evolve". I am working from home today as contractors are installing new doors...I could not come up with anything for lunch and then remembered I had fresh cukes, toms, and an onion I bought Saturday from our local farmers' market. I chopped them up, threw them in a bowl, and added some green olives I had on hand. Put in the bowl in the fridge to chill a bit while Googled for a raw dressing with ingredients I might actually have here at the house. TADA! Found your site, and I am still cruising around over an hour later. This dressing is an EASY and FLAVORFUL BOMB! I used Bragg's instead of soy sauce, I added some minced garlic, and freshly cracked black pepper. I want to drink the small puddle left in the bottom of the bowl! Thanks again, and I cannot wait to try other recipes I have found on your site.

First I want to say thanks for all of the great recipes! I just found your site and everybody is asleep so I'm itching to try some.
We went raw about 3 weeks ago. And while I have enjoyed it, my kids and hunny have lost enthusiasm. So I can't wait to let them each pick a recipe out. I definitely need to hurry up and get a dehydrator so they can have a burger again!
But anyhoo! I just tried this recipe and really liked it. I didn't have olive oil so I used coconut. And I also used Braggs instead of soy sauce. I'm very sensitive to vinegar so I didn't used quite as much. I also added cracked pepper and Braggs spices. I loved it. I just ate a salad with it.
Again thanks for the great recipes. Keep them coming! :)

Sounds like you are on a roll, Jennifer! Hate it when everyone is sleeping when you want to make something horribly loud, like almonds in the food processor lol    - hurry up and get a dehydrator already! They are fine. And not too loud ;)

Does it require refrigeration for storing?

Hi Krista,

So glad you are enjoying this recipe! I don't provide caloric or nutritional info, but I find that the best way to do it is to simply plug each ingredient into a calorie counter (like fitday.com) and then get the info for the whole recipe, then determine how much of that recipe you use for 1 serving. Hope this helps!

Hi Kari, great question. I would leave this in a tightly sealed container at room temp. However, I would probably only leave it for a couple days - then I would chuck it and make a new batch if I wasn't sick of it :)

What soy sauce do you recommend? Would it be possible to do a podcast or video on brands you use?
