Recipe Directions

1. Soak flax seed and buckwheat overnight in a bowl with 4 cups of water.

2. Next day, transfer a cupful of mixture at a time into the Vitamix or blender with 1 cup of water. Blend on high for a few moments and then pour into a large bowl. Repeat the process until all the mixture is finished BUT on the last cupful, add all the herbs and spices, garlic and salt into the blender. Add to the rest of the mixture and mix well.

3. Pour an amount of the mixture onto a Telfex sheet on your dehydrator tray and spread thinly. The mixture should cover about 6-7 trays. Dry at 145 degrees for 3 hours and then turn down to 115 degrees until dry. I always need to flip the crackers over and peel back the Teflex to get them completely dry. I find it useful to put them in the dryer at 8 pm and then turn the dryer down at 11 pm to dry overnight. In the morning I do the flipping and by lunchtime they are dry.

Sweetpea's Thoughts

By sweetpea

Lovely light textured chips/crisps.

Keep them in larger pieces for dipping into a sauce or crumble up and eat like crisps/chips.

Those look really good. Do you know another spice that could substitute for cumin? This chip looks like it would be interesting with black lentils in it- but I don't know i they would get too hard. I like the thinness of these.

Yes, use whatever are your favourite spices, these are mine, I like a kind of pizza flavour. Not sure about the black lentils though, I'd be more inclined to use them to make the dip!
