Ingredients
- 1 large avocado
- 1 banana
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 4 tablespoons raw cacao powder
- 2 tablespoons honey, agave nectar or maple syrup
- 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
Recipe Directions
- 1. Place all ingredients in food processor. Process until extremely smooth. (You can't over-process this one, so do keep going until it's perfectly mousse-like!)
- 2. Spoon mousse into individual dishes and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before eating.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
By The RawtarianWhat makes this raw chocolate mousse recipe so special? The addition of avocado gives it that fluffy, mousse-like texture. And to get the full effect of the texture, you'll want to refrigerate it for at least 1 hour before noshing on it!
Note that the coconut oil is an important ingredient - it's what helps the mousse harden up a bit in the fridge.
Because this is such a small recipe, it whips up best when made in a food processor.
For extra flavor and fun, add fresh berries to your mousse when eating!
PS: Make sure your banana and avocado are fresh and at the peak of perfection.

Raw chocolate mousse recipe
Wow! Just - wow!
I am trying to avoid processed sugar, and this mousse is just perfect for beating those sugar cravings, while still feeling virtuous. I don't have a food processor so used my blender, and it turned out great. I have made this twice already and I only discovered the recipe 4 days ago! Thanks so much.

I'm allergic to avocados! Help!

Hi Holly,
The avocados are for creaminess - you can do cashews instead - but you will need to do it in the blender instead.
maybe 1/3 cup cashews should do it - or maybe 1/2 cup somewhere in between there

Raw chocolate mousse recipe
I have been wanting to try an avocado chocolate "pudding" for some time, but I was hesitant to give it a shot. When I found this recipe online, I finally decided to give it a try, due to the apparent simplicity. Thank you for not disappointing me! The mousse was delicious, truly a treat. I will make this again and again!

Can I substitute banana with something else?
The Rawtarian
Dec 18, 2013
I don't recommend it, but if you must use something else instead of the banana then there are two things to consider: Banana is used for creaminess and sweetness.
For the creaminess, you can add another avocado instead.
But you will need to add something else to sweeten it, like dates and/or a sweetener (agave/maple syrup/honey etc)

Raw chocolate mousse recipe
I've made this recipe 3 times now. The first time I was so surprised just how delicious it was. The second time I made the mistake of using frozen banana (all I had) which made the mousse granular. The third time I added some orange essence - delicious! Next I want to try peppermint essence. You could almost use it as frosting, it's so rich! The boyfriend loves it too. And my brother (using maple syrup, as he's vegan).

Raw chocolate mousse recipe
Rich , creamy texture. This is even richer than "real chocolate" mousse- might try adding the vanilla or orange zest next time.

I use the large green Florida avocados for my sweet dishes. These avocados have a very light flavor, are naturally sweet and seem to complement dessert recipes.
