Ingredients
- 1 large avocado
- 1 banana
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 4 tablespoons raw cacao powder
- 2 tablespoons honey, agave nectar or maple syrup
- 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
Recipe Directions
- 1. Place all ingredients in food processor. Process until extremely smooth. (You can't over-process this one, so do keep going until it's perfectly mousse-like!)
- 2. Spoon mousse into individual dishes and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before eating.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
By The RawtarianWhat makes this raw chocolate mousse recipe so special? The addition of avocado gives it that fluffy, mousse-like texture. And to get the full effect of the texture, you'll want to refrigerate it for at least 1 hour before noshing on it!
Note that the coconut oil is an important ingredient - it's what helps the mousse harden up a bit in the fridge.
Because this is such a small recipe, it whips up best when made in a food processor.
For extra flavor and fun, add fresh berries to your mousse when eating!
PS: Make sure your banana and avocado are fresh and at the peak of perfection.

I don't have a food processor and the only "blender" that I have is the Nutribullet.. Any tips? Maybe mix by hand?

Tasted the mix out of the food processor as did Mr 5. I did mine with the addition of a blood orange (rind and juice).....jaffa mousse.....passed the taste test with flying colours!! 8 serves in the fridge (I doubled recipe using 3 med avos and 2 lg bananas) chilling for family dinner for 8 tomorrow night. BRING it ON!

Yep - sure was.....so much so that my brother made it for his GF and him (both there for mine) next day and I made it for the kids yesterday (with orange again). We served with frozen raspberries on top for the family thing and fresh strawbs last night for the kids.

Would a vitamix instead of food processor work with this recipe?

Hi Josie,
A food processor is recommended, but yes, this is one of the few recipes that would work in a VM or a FP.

Laura Jane,
This is so fabulous. Made it for a picnic this weekend and going to use it for a cooking class on Friday. My husband says it reminds him of his mother's Dutch chocolate pudding recipe in which she would add orange zest to. I will try that next time...
Thank you, thank you, thank you! The Rawtarian is my go-to everyday and I appreciate it so much.

What is the big difference between this and your avacado choco pudding, taste-wise?

This is DELICIOUS! Wondering if you know how long it would keep? I want to bring this to a potluck but have to prep the food a day in advance. Worried the avocados will go off. Any thoughts?

The avocado should be fine (as long as it wasn't too old when you used it). It will harden a bit in fridge though, so keep that in mind - it'll be more solid on the second day

Do you have a recommendation for an oil that I can use besides coconut oil? I am allergic to coconut.
The Rawtarian
Mar 24, 2014
Hi Katelyn,
No other oil will do, but you can experiment with chia seeds or ground chia seeds instead in this recipe

I was sceptical and curious so I tried :) ... and it turned very good (and very rich!). Next time I'll make it with dates instead of banana.
