The Rawtarian's Thoughts

Raw ketchup recipes that have the right ketchupy texture aren't that easy to find.
This recipe is pretty easy and can be made instantly without any soaking or prepping. All you need is a blender.
Of course, you can serve this raw ketchup recipe on raw burgers or any other raw meal that calls for ketchup! The texture is really perfect, the first time I made it it turned out perfectly without any tweaking. After I refrigerated my leftover ketchup for a day, there was a little bit of oil separation, which I drained off. Other than that, I have no improvements to suggest.
Grab your blender and start making raw ketchup already!

Could I use something other than dates? I live out in the middle of nowhere plus we are in the dessert so no dates anywhere to be found. I want to try other recipes on your site as well but the dates keep me from it. Any suggestions?

Hi MO, You can use raisins instead

Thank you so much. Raisins I do have. With this heat the sun is turning my grapes into raisins before I get a chance to pick them. Lol. Now off to get a "baking".

Hi Kahontiyo, It depends on the size of your dates, but I think 2-3 dates sounds perfect

1st recipe on your site I've tried; just finished - It turned out pretty good! I'm looking for sneaky ways to get more nutrition (and almost more importantly, less anti-nutrition lol) into my kids' diet so if I can pass this off for standard ketchup it'll be a big win.
I thought it was pretty great as is for my own taste, but if you need it to be as close to ketchup as possible I'd suggest cutting back on the oil (or substituting a milder-tasting oil) as the olive-oil taste comes through pretty distinctly. I'd also try a little less vinegar (or again something that's not quite so distinct). Finally, I had to add water (probably a half cup or more) to get it to a ketchup consistency. I used fresh tomatoes and dry sun-dried tomatoes so if you used canned tomatoes and jarred sun-dried tomatoes this might not be necessary.
Anyway great recipe! I look forward to checking some of your other stuff out.

Hi Mike, thanks for your thoughts and suggestions. Comments like these make this site a better place for all. I haven't made this recipe lately, but I will definitely try lessesning the vinegar.
Glad to have you here Mike.

This turned out to be a great tomato sauce! That sounds like I'm surprised but I'm really not as all of your recipes are fab. A friend just popped round and I had her try all of my creations this weekend. Before she put the spoonful of this sauce in her mouth she suddenly stopped and said 'Wow, even just the smell!'
My modifications were as follows:
The dates were soaked (why do you recommend NOT to soak the dates?) as I didn't use them all in the vanilla-mint squares so I had a few ready and waiting to be used.
I added some small red onions (they could be called shallots but I'm never too sure!)
I only added 1/2 tsp salt as for some reason adding a full teaspoon to recipes seems a lot to me.
It was probably around 1 1/2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar that I added as I ended up popping in the remaining tomatoes that I had and then felt it needed a bit extra vinegar.
I don't have any sun dried tomatoes at home (I might splash out and buy some next time I'm feeling flush but to me they are a more expensive item) so I'm not sure what difference they might have made. But I did add some Thai sweet basil...
The result - ohh my... so good! A bit runnier than I expected but not a problem. Perhaps it will thicken a bit over night?
It was great with the veggie burgers and I can't wait to dip the corn chips into it once they've finished dehydrating tomorrow. Happy days!

Not as long as a bottle of Heinz ketchup - that's for sure :)
Probably 4-5 days

I like this recipe, also your pizza crust. All has been used to create a tasty pizza, that my family loved!!!! I added dehydrated mushrooms, red pepper, tomatos, green onion

Glad you enjoyed it Alina! Loooove raw pizzas. I used to live off frozen pizzas in my previous life so I am glad to have an option to replace!

I also just discovered your blog. Subscribed and look forward to seeing more fantastic articles and recipes from you!
One thing I'd add to the front page is a way to navigate to older articles. The bottom of the page doesn't include a link to previous articles as most blogs have. Feel free to email me if you have any trouble adding this - I'm a web developer and would be happy to help!
I've been dabbling with raw for a few weeks now. One of my biggest challenges is living with roommates who regularly bring home fast food, pizzas, and snack on my produce. It's hard to resist eating some of their meals...I still haven't kicked the cravings for cooked and greasy foods. Though, I still feel good about substituting one or two cooked meals a day with a completely raw meal or green smoothie.

Hi Kevin! Now that you mention it, that makes total sense. I will endeavour to make this change shortly. Beware, I am not the most prompt of people. :)
Good luck on your journey... My advice? New roommates!! :) J/K, but, seriously, I know that makes it that much harder. Good for you with the green smoothies. The more fresh fruit and vegetables that you can incorporate into your diet the better, so good for you.
