Recipe Directions

  • 1. Throw all raw lemonade smoothie ingredients in blender and blend away until smooth!

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw lemonade smoothies are refreshing during the summer. There's something very cooling about that tart, tangy taste.

The color of this raw lemonade smoothie doesn't look very lemony due to the darkness of the dates, but the taste will be lemony-zingy!

I just love lemon-flavoured raw food recipes, like these raw lemon cookies.

Remember that you should always put the softest ingredients, such as bananas, in first. That way they're close to the blender's blade and make it easier to blend.

If you don't have a high-speed blender (such as a VitaMix) I might leave out the celery because celery is kind of stringy if not blended well. Also, if you don't have a high-speed blender make sure your dates are soft. If you have really hard dates, soak them in warmish water for half-an-hour or so.

Tip: If you don't have celery, try adding a handful of fresh parsley instead!

Enjoy!

This was perfect and yeilded about 2 cups. Perfect not too sweet and very refreshing. I’ve enjoyed making your recipes and I’m so amazed at how great things taste every time.

What can I sub the dates with? Dates make my sugar spike like crazy.

In this recipe, you can try adding a little bit of stevia instead for sweetness.

I love this smoothie! It is perfect for summer. I had some strawberries so I added 1/2 cup and only used 2 dates so it would not be too sweet.

Is there a substitute for the banana? I have many allergies. And some of the allergies are preservatives in store bought and prepared foods. Which is one reason for choosing the raw diet. However, I am allergic to some of the fruits, vegies and nuts. Thank you.

Maybe two peaches instead, plus something else for creaminess, like some cashews, or coconut milk, or avocado, or...? Some ideas for you to run with :)

The banana adds creaminess and sweetness. The flavor will change a bit if you substitute something for the banana but here are some suggestions:
Raw coconut or almond yogurt
Cashews
Avocado
Or you could just add another type of fruit. It won't be creamy but should be okay. I added strawberries to mine. You may need to adjust the sweetener depending upon what you use. You could also soak some chia seeds in the 1 cup of water before you make it.

I LOVE this smoothie. Seriously, I am literally sad when it's gone. I use parsley instead of celery and I add a touch of honey. Yummmm...

For this plan it says when you make the drink to drink immediately but I am at work during the day so can I make them ahead of time, freeze them and then defrost them so that it is ready by lunch? Thanks!

Hi Jessica,

No, I don't think think freezing is going to work for you.

You can bring them to work with you - just keep them in the fridge. They will probably get thick and congealy, so not quite ideal though. If you happen to have access to a blender at work, reblending them again will help "refresh" them.

Also, perhaps a big salad will be easier (and tastier) for you to bring to work?
