Yield
Makes about 18 ounces, so one big 16 oz smoothie plus a little leftover, or 2 9oz servings
Ingredients
1 cup water
3 cup fresh spinach
1 banana
½ cup blueberries, frozen
4 strawberries, tops removed, frozen
1 tablespoon ground flax seeds
1 teaspoon raw honey or agave nectar
1 dash ginger, ground, or 1/4 tsp chopped for actual raw
1 dash allspice, ground (so not technically raw...)
4 ice cubes, optional
Recipe Directions
Put spinach and water in blender and blend on highest speed until you have an even looking green “juice.” This took less than 30 seconds in my blender, and it’s just a normal Oster blender. Nothing fancy like a Vitamix.
Add all remaining ingredients and blend at high speed for a couple minutes. It may take a few times of pulsing and smooshing things around inside with a spoon.
Pour in a glass and enjoy!
Branwyn32's Thoughts
By Branwyn32This is my very first green smoothie! I think it’d be a great “starter smoothie” for the other raw newbies like me. I love smoothies but was wary about the greens…you really can’t even taste the spinach, it blends right in and makes a yummy sweet smoothie that’s not TOO sweet. I added honey and spices out of paranoia more than anything…they’re really optional, you don’t really need them. The fruit is pretty much enough. The flax is nice but not absolutely necessary either. I like my smoothies thick and cold, so I added ice and froze my berries the night before.

I just wanted to pop by and say that you encouraged me to make a greenie this morning! I didn't follow this recipe to the exact because I have produce here I need to use before my next Farmer's Market trip... but I am enjoying it, motivated by you!
I don't have a vitamix. I have a juicer and a blender though... so I juiced spinach, nantes carrots, red bell pepper and heaps of cilantro together... took the pulp, juice, ice, raw honey and 2 baby bananas (for extra kcals and a little more sweet) and tossed it into a blender...blend and choppity chop and now I've got a hello kitty mug full of a delicious-nutritious-drink! I am trying to go a little lighter at breakfast (I also am consuming a mashed avocado for extr kcals) because I'm going into San Francisco today and will probably stop by Cafe Gratitude for some raw grub!
Enjoy your Thursday my dear : )
