Yield
1 large smoothie
Ingredients
- 2 medium bananas
- 2 medium oranges
- 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice (or water for a less orangy-taste)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
Recipe Directions
- 1. Get your orange zest off an orange before you peel it. The easiest way to get fresh orange zest is to simply use a clean orange peeler to shave a bit of orange peel off. Collect 1 tbsp's worth.
- 2. Peel your oranges well using a knife. Cut off most of the white rind so that you just have nice, glistening oranges with very little white rind left.
- 3. Add all ingredients to your high-speed blender.
- 4. Blend well.
- 5. Enjoy your raw orange smoothie!
The Rawtarian's Thoughts

Raw orange smoothie recipe - I was craving a creamy orange smoothie today for some reason. Not sure why! So I put my thinking cap on about what would make this smoothie burst with orange flavour - while at the same time being super smooth and creamy. And here's what I came up with!
It's very easy to make, and the consistency is super creamy and orangy. Note: This is best made with a high-speed blender since oranges can be difficult to get to a smooth consistency in a standard blender due to their fibrous consistency.
Enjoy this raw orange smoothie recipe when you're craving a creamsicle! This recipe makes one serving -- perfect for a snack or dessert.

Rakesh, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) equals 3 teaspoons. 1 teaspoon equals 5 ml :-)

Hi Rakesh,
Orange zest is simply the peel of an orange. So you can just take some of the peel and use it in the recipe. This gives a more "orangey" flavor :)

Hi,
I love the idea of the raw smoothies but are you able to recommend something I can use to substitue bananas? I hate banana and avocado isnt an option either (I dont have them in the house becuase they are so toxic to my parrot) and mangoes are not a year round option.

Hi Emily, in smoothies that call for a banana you can use 1 cup of strawberries instead. And if you want the added creaminess that bananas bring you could add some nuts (example cashews) or a large helping of hempseed hearts

This was my favourite recipe! (Which is odd, because I'd take a chocolate smoothie over an orange one any day). So fresh and zingy! I made a few adjustments since I was on my last banana. I added 1/2 an avocado instead of the second banana and coconut oil. It tasted marvellous, and was so thick and decadent! I'll be using this recipe quite often I think :)

Do you ever add any sort of protein or whey powder for added protein?
The Rawtarian
May 11, 2013
Hi Jerri, I don't use powders, I use raw ingredients - especially hempseed hearts for extra plant-based protein :)

Hi again Vlpanfried - strange. Perhaps your dried coconut is different than mine? That really is my photo so I was able to get it to work with my set-up and following the directions as written :)
