Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
  • 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
  • 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
  • 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
  • 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
  • 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
  • PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.

My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)

You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.

Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)

Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

Thanks so much for these amazing recipes! These brownies are awesome, and the icing is also a great dip for strawberries and apples. I have a question - do you think this recipe would work if the coconut was omitted? I know that some people don't like coconut, so I'm wondering how I could alter the recipe to adjust for this... Thanks!

Hi Candace,

Thanks for your review!

Yes, the recipe works fine without the coconut. You can also use hempseed hearts instead of the coconut, but generally it's fine if you leave it out completely and don't replace

We have coconut allergies - what can we substitute?

Hi Robin, you can omit the coconut entirely in this recipe, or use hempseed hearts instead

This is another all-time favorite in our house! It's easily made, easily kept, easily eaten/enjoyed by all. A nice healthy treat for my daughter's school lunches and easy to make extra to share with others. Everyone we have shared this with (many!) have loved it!

I had my first raw cookie this winter at the organic farmer's market in Vienna. The "Raw bakery" changed my mind about non baked sweets.
Found your site, liked it a lot and treated myself this great app. How great it is that once you buy the app you get all the updates for free!
You're amazing!

The next treat was for my family: this delicious brownie!

Greetings from Vienna Austria

So I'm back and guilty, GUILTY for hiding in the kitchen while eating the half of this heaven.
I cut it into bars as it is rich so you can't eat much.
Well that's what I'd "lied" :) to myself before I ate the half on my own.
I really love your app but it's too bad I couldn't reply to your comment directly in the app.

Off to check if I have all the ingredients for the carrot cake :)

I can't keep my non-raw roommates away from these brownies! I cut them into smaller brownies so that I would be good and only eat a little bit at a time, but not only do I keep eating 3 or 4 of them, each time I come back tot he fridge, my roommates have taken one! Delicious recipe, as are all of the other ones of yours that I've made. Thanks so much!

I have never made a raw brownie, or any other raw recipe for that matter, before. I had the ingredients on hand and decided to give it a try. I am actually blown away at how delicious this tastes. I made the frosting too, right now it is setting up in the fridge, but I taste tested along the way and it's so good. Even my kids (2 &4) loved it, they taste tested too:), and they keep asking me to check on the brownies to see if they are done! This is a wonderful introduction to raw food for me, Thank you!

Hi Nicole,

Welcome to the raw world :-)

The big question is, what will you make next? I've got some handy no-equipment-required sweet recipes that your four-year-old may want to help you make!

Raw brownie recipe

This was my first try at a raw vegan dessert and I'm amazed at how simple and tasty it was - and VERY forgiving. I don't have a food processor but managed with a blender, also didn't have pecans so substituted with walnuts but then i didn't have quite enough of those either so threw in some cashews. I'm sure with a food processor it would have been smoother but it worked really well like this! Bookmarked your site and will definitely come back for more :)

Should I use the soft style Medjool dates? Or dried dates?

When you say dates, do,you mean dried dates, or the fresh Medjool dates? I imagine the two alternatives would have very different results.

Hi Karen, either are fine, but medjool is best if you have them! But they are more expensive, so choose whatever will work for you
