Raw brownie recipe

Yield
1 dish brownies
Ingredients
- 1 cup pecans (you can use walnuts in a pinch, but pecans are much better!)
- 1 cup dates
- 5 tablespoons raw cacao (cocoa) powder
- 4 tablespoons shredded unsweetened coconut
- 2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Recipe Directions
- 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
- 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
- 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
- 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
- 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
- 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
- PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts

Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!
I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.
My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)
You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.
Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)
Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

Raw brownie recipe
Love this recipe, super-delish! One question - how long are the brownies good for? I just rediscovered a few from the last batch I made about 3 weeks ago. Since there are no animal products or by-products, I wondered - can I still eat it?
The Rawtarian

Hi Adrienne, yes, I think they'd still be good

Hello, do you think I could substitute the pecans with walnuts?

Hi Vanessa,
Definitely! Both pecans and walnuts are great in this recipe. I use both interchangeably.

Raw brownie recipe
Good! Success in my blender, though I might have over-mixed a tad because it took the blender some time to get this bits in the corner mixed in right. I feel like coco powder can be fairly different in intensity and maybe 5Tbs. was too much! I'd have gone with 3 just to keep a bit more date/pecan flavor. Also next time i'm going to try it with something spicy- maybe a tsp. garam masala. Or maybe some orange zest!!

Hi Yasha. Sometimes it takes a little experimenting to get it just right. Orange zest sounds yummy!

Raw brownie recipe
So very good, I did let them go too long in my food processor once and they tasted like tootsie rolls :) !!!!
And just to go along with the other comments, I do soak/dehydrate my nuts....but they are fully dry when I use them in any recipe so it would be same as using raw.

Tootsie rolls, lol. That's not a bad thing! :)

This recipe turned out a bit dry for me, because I erroneously substituted grams for millilitres (assuming that in 'metric' the ingredients would be listed by weight since they had already been listed by volume in 'customary'). Turns out 60 grams of coconut ... is quite a lot of coconut, and 235 grams of pecans is closer to two cups than one. Lucky I'm a fan of both coconut and pecans :)

Hi Victoria,
It's easy! Just blend until smooth:
1 cup dates
1/4 cup raw cacao (cocoa) powder
1/4 cup coconut oil
3/4 cup water (or a tiny bit more if needed - try to keep at 3/4 cup or so though)

Raw brownie recipe
LOVE this recipe. It's moist, tasty + healthy! This is the 2nd week in a row that I'm making it for my guests. It's particularly perfect for shabbat (Jewish Friday Night) supper as there is no dairy. What more could I ask for? Thanks!

Raw brownie recipe
Ah-mazing. The first time I made these brownies I couldn't even wait to get them into the fridge! I ate them straight from the blender! I've told all my friends about them and they are crazy for them too. So simple and oh so satisfying. Even better with the icing, if you can manage to wait the extra 5 minutes to make it ;)

Hi Stephanie,
So glad you enjoyed :) And don't worry, you're not the only one to eat straight from the kitchen equipment haha

Raw brownie recipe
I love this recipe. I topped this brownie with the chocolate icing. I can't believe how similar this is to traditional brownies! This is my first time making a raw dessert, and I'm converted now! Thanks!
I do have one question. Is it alright to use moist soaked nuts? I know it's good to soak nuts to remove enzyme inhibitors, and I wasn't sure if I should dry them before using.
Thanks again!

Hi Joshua,
Glad you found success on your first recipe :) You chose wisely haha
In general re: soaked nuts, it depends on the recipe. Usually, if soaking, you should pat dry with a clean tea towel just to make sure you aren't inadvertently adding excess water to a recipe.

Raw brownie recipe
If anyone would like to know. I used pecans that I soaked in brine water for about 5 hours, then drained and rinsed with water. The absorbed moisture was not a problem, and the recipe turned out great. Hope this helps. :)

I made this recipe several times (with my Vitamix) and my chocoholic husband loved them! I always have some in the freezer lol
I combine the shortbread recipe with that one. I put less coconut.
