Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups quick oats (pre-cooked)
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 apple
- 1 tablespoon raisins
Recipe Directions
- 1. OPTIONAL TO SOFTEN: The night before, throw the water, raisins and then oats into your blender. Let them sit overnight.
- 2. In the morning, start your blender (and if you didn't soak the night before, throw the water, raisins and then the oats into your blender). While the water and oats are blending, chop the apple and then add it to the blender, too.
- 3. Continue blending until the oatmeal is a nice, smooth texture.
- 4. Eat! I love to top this oatmeal with more whole raisins and a sprinkle of cinnamon. This recipe makes for a very filling breakfast.

By The Rawtarian In the morning, my breakfast is almost always either fresh fruit, a green smoothie, or--my favourite--quick, blended oatmeal.
This recipe does take a bit of preparation because it should be soaked overnight, but, with only a few ingredients, it's so easy! (PS: You can do it without soaking but it won't be as smooth.)
Of course, like any good oatmeal, top this recipe with fruit or whatever suits your fancy!
PS: It has recently come to my attention that eating truly uncooked oats is not safe. Thus, I have modified this recipe to use quick rolled oats, which have been cooked but are way better for your digestive system. Truly raw (uncooked) oats are very tough on the digestive system and should not be eaten because of their high amount of phytic acid.

How long is overnight? I have a pretty crazy schedule and I normally get an average of 4 hours of sleep. Is overnight 6-8 hours?

4 hours would probably be enough to soften it - I usually leave mine for 8 hours but since you can make WITHOUT soaking at all 4 hours will be fine
PS: You need more sleep! Little ones in the house?

I get the steel cut oats at Bulk Barn. They are very affordable at less than 30 cents/100gr. :)

Growing up my Swiss grandmother made us musli which I am trying to recreate, did you try soaking the oats in Almond milk?

I make a "raw swiss bircher musli" meant to be eaten cold - love it during our warm summers. I make a big batch on the weekend and eat it all week.
3 cups oats, 2 mashed bananas, 2 GRATED apples, juice from 2 oranges (I then cut whats left up and add it), juice from 1 to 2 lemons, green and/or red grapes (1- 2 cups) sliced in half. I put the smashed bananas in first, then the oatmeal, squeeze the lemon juice on top of the oatmeal and let it sit while you grate the apples and cut the grapes,
Then add it all together - it will be thick... put in the refrigerator overnight. the juice from all the fruits break down the oatmeal. To eat - 1 cup will fill you up! and I add sliced almonds, or pecans, or walnut sprinkled on top. You can also serve with berries. The variety is endless .... Delicious! (For dessert eat it with some whipped coconut whipped cream and a tad of cinnamon :)

Would it be acceptable to use plain Quaker Old-Fashioned Oatmeal for this?

Acceptable to whom? I doubt Quaker is "raw", but if you like eating them, go for it.

You have to understand, some folks may just be getting started, and in this day and age, folks may not have the money to literally throw away food. They have to work with what they have until they know what they are doing in the kitchen and they use the old stuff up and get new things. It's a learning curve they may use, especially if their kitchen-home economics skills are at beginner stage. Go gentle, eh?

Hi there, I made the raw oatmeal recipe this morning after soaking my steel cut oats and goji berries (don't like raisins). Then I blended everything this morning, added a banana (didn't have any apples, haha). Sprinkled with cinnamon and some fresh blueberries... delish! Just very glue-like so I think I probably should have added more water, no? My coworker loved it, too, so I think this might become our new breakfast :) Thanks so much for all the recipes!
