Recipe Directions

  • 1. Shred your apple using a hand shredder. (If making only one or two bowls, I use a mandoline slicer with the shredder attachment. If making this for many people, probably easiest to shred in a food processor.)
  • 2. Place shredded apple in bowl, and top with remaining ingredients.
  • 3. Top with the cashew milk (best) or alternatively use water.
  • 4. Stir vigourously. Within a couple of minutes the chia seeds and shredded coconut will absorb the liquid and you will have a delicious, ready to eat raw breakfast cereal.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

This recipe is very similar to my raw breakfast cereal recipe; however, there are a couple of key differences - especially the addition of the coconut and the shredding of the apple.

In fact, it is the shredded apple that makes up the recipe - and gives it a stellar texture!

This recipe is for one person.

Do you cook the buckwheat groats before adding them to the breakfast bowl? I love this cereal.

Oh YUM! I've been RAW for 35 days now and am LOVING it! Thanks for all the amazing quick and easy recipes. I've been a vegetarian for 15 years and vegan some of that time. I have several Raw Un-cook books, and though the pictures look spectacular the long list of ingredients and preparation always felt daunting. THANK YOU! I've shared your site with everybody I know! I added cardamom and cloves to this Raw Breakfast Bowl and ... OMG! Dee-lish!

This is one of my favorite breakfast recipes, I've been coming back to this webpage for years now! I was hoping you would be able to suggest a few of your highest-fat recipes, I have a 15 month old daughter and her pediatrician said a high fat diet is a priority at her age. I've been trying to include as much avocado and coconut milk in her diet as possible, but I'm running out of ideas. So of course I'm combing your recipes again for more inspiration! Thank you for so much deliciousness!

Hi AstralBetty!

The first thought that comes to mind is for you to become adept at using the "ingredient" search here -- click on the search box above, and then click the little "fork and knife" icon - then click "more options" and then you'll see the ingredient search in there. It's kinda hidden, but it'll be helpful for you.

As you suggest, using cashews or avocados in the ingredient search is a great place to start for higher fat recipes :)

This was the recipe that made me think I could give raw a serious go. It is proof that raw foods don't have to be over-complicated to be healthy and delicious. This recipe was also the catalyst for me to become a paying member of The Raw Kitchen and try out all that you have to offer. I am so glad that I did! Thank you so much Laura-Jane! ♥

Aww, thank you, Becky! So glad you are enjoying!

As for the link problem, it looks like you're using the app. The links won't work in the app, but in short, here's how you make the lemon cookies. 1 cup cashews, 1 cup unsweetened dried coconut, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 tablespoon agave nectar or maple syrup... process, form into cookies and dehydrate!

Can you use hemp milk instead of almond or cashew milk? What is your opinion of hemp milk?

I tried this recipe and I "Loved" it. Thank you so much for the simple breakfast. I have a question concerning the buckwheat groats? Does it matter if the buckwheat groats is hulled or unhulled?

Hi Emily,

I'm not sure about the unhulled vs. hulled - the ones that I buy at my health food store look like this
