Joined May 31, 2009
I'm a mother of four, a looong-time junk food eater and amateur food researcher. I've had gazillions of health problems but usually not debilitating. This past year, starting last summer, has been a year of eye-openers, both spiritual and physical. My health started declining and I became almost unable to really function as a mother and wife. I tried every healthy eating style I've ever successfully tried before and nothing really worked. I lost weight, but my energy was still way low. I finally discovered that I had some emerging food and airborne allergies. After cutting out everything I was allergic to and minimizing the allergens in the air, I began to improve, but my energy was still lower than it used to be. (it was never all that great to begin with)

I'm the kind of person that always wants to know why. It did not make sense to me that I would develop allergies when no one in my family is allergic to anything. I did some research (actually a lot of research) and found (among many other things) the GenoType diet. It's not really scientifically sound, as many, many people will point out, and I would not really recommend it to people in general, but the list of forbidden foods seemed to match fairly well with my own experiences of what made me feel worse, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I did begin to heal and my health is what it was more than a year ago. I can tolerate increasing amounts of my allergens and the airborne ones don't bother me at all even though it's spring.

The reason I'm here is that I'm trying to use that momentum to continue to improve and get my health were it really should be. I now have a goal in mind for what I would like to do with my life, and in order to achieve that goal I will need to be a truly vital person, instead of the semi-passive person I've been in the past. I know from all my research and experience that those people who eat raw fruits and vegetables have more life. Their faces are brighter, their wills are stronger, and their lives are richer. It is not my intention to ever be 100% raw, but it was never my intention to homeschool my kids or live in Utah either, and here I am. :) I will just have to wait and see. I plan to begin my raw journey sometime around the middle of June 2009. At the moment I'm merely gathering information.

Addendum: I began high raw soon after writing the above, but I cannot deal with full blown detox, and I had to cut back. I've tinkered quite a bit, enjoying some of the foods I'm no longer allergic to. :) I firmly believe that raw foodies are the most healthy people around, but I'm going to have to take it very gradually myself.
