Risnwthhim~ I believe it was around 3 days out on the counter... It would depend on how warm or cool your home... The solid begins to grow and seperates from the liquid, "whey"... When it stops looking like it's growing, it should be ready... Smell it and taste it... It wont bite... *GRIN*

Use the Power Dophilus probiotic - by Country Life. You should be able to get it at most HFS (should be refrigerated. One capsule does the job!

Sounds like a great idea! I normally use probiotics to get my cheeze sour. I am going to try this so I can try your biscuits recipe! :) thanks!

pandaonacupcake~ kombucha tea is a fermented mushroom tea I am sure you can buy the mushrooms online somewhere they need to come refrigerated not frozen (freezer kills it). I used to work for a lady that would boil regular tea bags remove tea bags then add white sugar (she said it was the only sugar that could be used for this tea?) boil a couple minutes later then cool the tea down to room temp pour over the mother mushroom, cover with muslim cloth for 7-10 days until fermented. The mother will develop a baby that can be gently pulled apart form the mother to start a second batch, the mother and babies can be reused until they start to fall apart which can then be composted. It is a process, good luck if you are going to try.

I'm anxious to try this. How long do you leave the stuff out to "bloom"? I've never fermented cheeze before. What signs to you look for to determine when it's ready?

I don't really know anything about kombucha...would it work with the bottled kind at the grocery store or are you talking about something more specialized?
