Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
  • 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
  • 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
  • 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
  • 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
  • 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
  • PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.

My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)

You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.

Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)

Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

These were delicious! Thanks! For nuts, I used Trader Joe's mixed fancy raw nuts, because they were in the cabinet, and they turned out great. Everything else I did as directed. Great simple recipe.

Hi,
I'm planning to make this recipe but would rather not use coconut. Is there a sub for that?
Thanks

Terrific! Another win :) I used cashews because that is what I had and they still taste dark rich and decadent.

Valerie, I don't know if you're on My Fitness Pal or not. It's free. Anyway, they have a recipe builder. If you put all of the ingredients into the recipe builder & put in the number of servings, it will calculate the total calories for you & calories per serving. It's a pretty nifty tool.

I make a variant on this - I use whatever hard nut I still have (walnut, hazelnut, almond, brazil nut) and add red fruits - cherries if possible (about 2-3 cups). It makes the brownie slightly more moist and lighter in calories. It does take longer to dehydrate though as the cherries take longer to dry.

I love cherries and I never think to use them in many recipes because they are so expensive where I live. So jealous. :) I just know that these would be delicious with the cherries.

I just wanted to say these are AMAZING! I have only recently discovered raw eating and your app is a godsend. They are fresh, simple and easy to prepare with little effort (I'm sold!) These brownies are amazing, I made the chocolate frosting too and they are extra sweet and chocolaty! Perfect for my sweet tooth. I would love to see some more savory recipes <3

I have been looking for a brownies recipes lately, and this seems the best. But what food processor do you use, I am afraid there are few processors, and very expensive, which can do this job. I read in some of the previous comments, that some people soaked a bit the ingredients, this might help, but still a really good food processor is needed.

Hi Magda,

Not sure what your budget is, but if you're cheap like me here's what I recommend!

Here is the cheap food processor that I own - it gets bad reviews on Amazon but it's cheap and it's the one I've been using for almost 4 years! I don't have a problem recommending it, it's the Black and Decker Quick and Easy: http://tinyurl.com/avdwva4

Hi Laura-Jane! I just found your site and am really enjoying it! I tried the raw brownies, but left out the coconut and 1/2 of the sweetener, and they were still delicious! I made an icing out of coconut oil and maple syrup, and that set them off perfectly. Thanks so much for the recipe! :-)

Love this recipe. We've been high raw for over three months now. I sometimes substitute " a dab " of coconut oil instead of honey or agave to cut back on the sugar. Still quite tasty.

That sounds good. I think it's still important to use at least some walnuts or pecans because W and P are pretty oily, and the recipe does need that natural oil from the nuts

Will it really change the taste if I omit the coconut?
