Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place all ingredients in food processor. Process until extremely smooth. (You can't over-process this one, so do keep going until it's perfectly mousse-like!)
  • 2. Spoon mousse into individual dishes and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before eating.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

What makes this raw chocolate mousse recipe so special? The addition of avocado gives it that fluffy, mousse-like texture. And to get the full effect of the texture, you'll want to refrigerate it for at least 1 hour before noshing on it!

Note that the coconut oil is an important ingredient - it's what helps the mousse harden up a bit in the fridge.

Because this is such a small recipe, it whips up best when made in a food processor.

For extra flavor and fun, add fresh berries to your mousse when eating!

PS: Make sure your banana and avocado are fresh and at the peak of perfection.

Hi Claudia!
Glad to hear it is yummy! I want to make it soon as well!

How long did it take for you to grow the avocado and banana trees? I really want to grow them because I am obsessed with avocados and bananas (among other things!).... I live in California. Do you think it would grow well here?

Thanks!
-Grace :)

P.S. Roughly how many servings does this make?

How many do you think this serves? For a normal person? :P Would you say this could serve 4? Or 1? Haha, thanks :)

Hi There,

I love your Raw Chocolate Mousse recipe. And I would also really love to feature it in our website, GreenThickies.

I will not be posting the actual recipe, but will only use one image from here and a small quote and link directly back to this recipe page.
Would that be okay with you?

Thanks a lot

This is absolutely delicious. Is it possible to put in the freezer for a week and then unfreeze and eating before 3 days in the fridge?
I want to do it for my wedding but I would need to do it days before otherwise I'll be like crazy !
The consistency will be fine ?
Thank you!

I definitely don't recommend the freezing route - the banana texture just won't be the same.

You can make it a day or two in advance and refrigerate it though :)

PS: Happy upcoming nuptials!!

This one is the "smooth operator" chocolate mousse! I added one more small banana and unsweetened coconut flakes to the mix. After it cools off in the fridge, I'll mix in a handful of dried cranberries or just dip my strawberries in it ?

Best mousse recipe - EVER!! Before having to go gluten-free/dairy-free/peanut-free, I made chocolate mousse with milk/cream/butter. The texture wasn't near as firm and silken as this! It's DIVINE - and nutritious, too!! Amazing!! I doubled the recipe, and am having a hard time keeping from eating all of it in one sitting...oh, my!!

Hi Laura-Jane, I L<3ve this recipe but my family isn't really into it because you can really taste the banana. Can you suggest the ingredient that I could use to maybe replace the banana for them but still get that nice foamy creamy texture?
Thank you so much, and keep up with good work, I absolutely adore your recipes!!

Love,
Karmen

Hi Karmen!

A couple of thoughts:

1. If your bananas was over-ripe (getting pretty brown), it might have been abnormally banana-flavory... which is not good.

2. If your banana was NOT over-ripe and it was still too banana-ish for you, try using another avocado instead of the banana - plus, if you do that, you might want to add some more sweetener (dates, maple syrup etc) to compensate for the lack of naturally-occurring sugar from the bananaa if you omit it.

Hi Debra!

The nutritional info here at www.therawtarian.com is all custom, so I am not able to provide this for you.

However, I think if you use WordPress there are probably some nutritional info plugins that you can use :)
