Ingredients
- 1 large avocado
- 1 banana
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 4 tablespoons raw cacao powder
- 2 tablespoons honey, agave nectar or maple syrup
- 1/8 teaspoon sea salt
Recipe Directions
- 1. Place all ingredients in food processor. Process until extremely smooth. (You can't over-process this one, so do keep going until it's perfectly mousse-like!)
- 2. Spoon mousse into individual dishes and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before eating.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
By The RawtarianWhat makes this raw chocolate mousse recipe so special? The addition of avocado gives it that fluffy, mousse-like texture. And to get the full effect of the texture, you'll want to refrigerate it for at least 1 hour before noshing on it!
Note that the coconut oil is an important ingredient - it's what helps the mousse harden up a bit in the fridge.
Because this is such a small recipe, it whips up best when made in a food processor.
For extra flavor and fun, add fresh berries to your mousse when eating!
PS: Make sure your banana and avocado are fresh and at the peak of perfection.

I tried a different avocado raw cacao powder mousse recipe that didn't have bananas in and it was a revelation! I am intrigued by use of bananas in this recipe as it will add fiber and nutrients - however, I would like to know whether the taste of the banana will be too overpowering? Thanks!

Not at all, Sara! Banana provides sweetness and creaminess rather than flavor. Try it and let me know what you think. (and of course the riper the banana is, the more powerful the flavor will be, so avoid those over-ripe bananas!)

I don't have a food processor, can a blender be used instead?

I think you could use chia seeds to thicken it up instead.

Sorry, Brittany, the coconut oil is necessary as it helps to thicken and/or solidify certain recipes. In this case you can omit the coconut oil - the pudding just won't be as thick.

I have some avid banana haters in my house. If I wanted to leave the banana out, would you recommend just adding more avocado? or more coconut oil? Or upping both a little? Thanks in advance!

I'd say, go for this one instead :) It is called an "icing" but if you refrigerate it it'll be mousse-like :) https://www.therawtarian.com/raw-chocolate-icing
