The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Don't believe me that this could taste as good as old-school SAD (standard American diet) ranch? Just try it. I dare ya :)

Raw ranch dressing is another one of those things that I cannot believe it's possible to replicate raw. But, hallelujah, it is possible.

There is nothing like a nice fresh carrot dipped in raw ranch dressing, no?

And I have even had the pleasure of dipping my raw vegan pizza in raw ranch dressing. "Cue heavenly harp sound...."

So here's my favourite raw ranch dressing recipe for you... I use it basically like a normal salad dressing or dip. I usually make one batch and serve it as a vegetable dip, salad dressing and maybe even on a few more exciting things, like in a raw vegan BLT sandwich or dip raw pizza in it if I am feeling particularly daring.

Of course, you also know that the best vegetables to dip in raw ranch dressing are carrots and broccolli, right?

It is fantastic! & I've shared the recipe several times already.

I make this once a week, and the recipe halves perfectly. Not all recipes taste great when you cut in half or less. This one is spot on in the smaller batch. Love it. thanks again :)

Hi Chrissi, So glad you like and have shared! I totally know what you mean about halving. Some recipes just can't be halved, either due to flavour or even because they get too small and won't blend/process.

I love keeping this in the fridge too, it's a nice dip for quick veggies and dip snacks!

Made this with a few reductions.
No oil, half the garlic and only a dash of vinegar. It worked out very well and was greatly enjoyed. Thanks.

So glad you liked, Mimi! There is still room for olive oil and vinegar, but this is a nice treat when you want something a little richer!

This is absolutely fantastic! I added all of the vinegar you called for, a little more cashews because I added 3/4 of a red bell pepper to make this thousand island. It is fabulous. This will be a staple for our salads for years to come. I poured it over a taco salad tonight. Can't wait to use it again. Thank you.

Thank you is all I can say...your ranch dressing has given me the ability to give up my addiction to dairy sour cream. I used one cup of sunflower seeds instead of the cashews to make it nut free. I served it with zucchini noodles and dehydrated marinated cauliflower and broccoli florets.

Hi Brooke! Now that's what I call a success. :)

Your broc and cauliflower florets marinated and dehydrated sounds really yummy. What did you marinate them in?

Hello!

To every 500g/1.2lb of small broccoli and cauliflower florets you add the following -
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3 tablespoons good olive oil
1 tablespoon homemade Nama Shoyu

I let mine marinade for a couple of hours with a couple of 'hand massages' every now and then. I then dehydrated it until it was crunchy (about four hours on low). I put the florets directly on the mesh tray in the dehydrator and the florets got quite small in size but with heaps of flavour that paired well with the creamy ranch dressing and zuke noodles. Russel James gets credit for the marinade and brocolli, I just added the cauliflower to the recipe!

Homemade Nama Shoyu Recipe - replaces tamari and salt in lots of recipes. Lasts over a week in fridge. Am going to freeze small portions of it to see if that works as a way to preserve it for longer.
Ingredients:

1 large portabello mushroom
1 tablespoon good salt
2 cups filtered water
Preparation:

Place the mushroom and salt in the blender with 1/2 cup of the water. Blend on high speed for 10 seconds, slowly add the remaining water through the top while continuing to blend. You may wish to strain the liquid to remove any mushroom chunks. I did not strain it as my blender pulverised it sufficiently. Jennifer Murray gets the credit for this recipe!

Thanks for being so inspirational L-J.

Hi Brooke, this marinade sounds AWESOME. And very simple. So right there you know I am guaranteed to love it :)

Brilliant about the homemade nama shoyu! It hadn't even occurred to me to do that homemade. Brilliant.

I love this dressing! I eat it a few times a week. We had a work potluck today and I made a big kale salad with this. Everyone (omnivores!) raved about it and was asking me what kind of dressing it was! I told them about this site. Thanks for the amazing yummy recipes!

This is delicious! One question though, mine really thickened up overnight in the fridge, to the point where I can't pour it anymore. Any suggestions?

Hi Gwyneth - if you let it sit out of the fridge for a bit it will soften up again

What can I substitute for cashews? (Only nuts I can tolerate are peanuts and almonds).
Thank you

Hi Geetha - the only nuts that will work in this recipe are cashews or macadamia nuts or pine nuts (or some combo of those)

I made this recipe with honey instead of agave and cut it down to 2 tablespoons. It was SO SWEET; almost like a dessert sauce. Ick. I had to add another cup of cashews and more olive oil, etc and ended up with a ridiculous amount of ranch dressing. I also added fresh cilantro in hopes of it taking some of the sweetness out. Practice caution with your sweeteners everyone!

Hi LC - thanks for sharing your tip. Honey is sweeter than agave so it is a worthwhile note to mention!!

This is truly amazing! Thank you so much, I have been looking for an awesome Ranch dressing and here it is! Just made this and I think I am getting Ranch on the keyboard...had to stick my fingers in the salad bowl when done. I did use a little less water so it was a bit thick and will serve well for a dip. Heck, in a few days I can run it thru the blender again with more water and make it last (yeah, right, this is so good it might be all gone toady!). I used 1/4 cup hempseed oil instead of 1/3 olive oil, and organic maple syrup. I am amazed. Miss Rawatarian lady - Thank you, thank you.
