Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
  • 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
  • 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
  • 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
  • 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
  • 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
  • PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.

My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)

You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.

Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)

Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

Ingrid, (my wife) and I are hooked on your website. We use cacao nibs in our morning smoothies as well as our almond and cashew butter.
Whilst making the brownie recipe for the umpteenth time today, she suggested we use 4 tbsp of cacao powder and one tbsp of cacao nibs. Awesome!
Try it and tell me what you think. It adds another texture to the brownies.

Thanks for all the great recipes and the great fun we are having with them.

Just a quick check... In all your recipes are you using medjool dates or pitted dried dates???
And do you always soak your nuts???
I just adore this site and the recipes and continue to share the rawtarian love around with others... Who always get equally excited!

Hi Jacaleen - thanks for sharing and for your great questions.

1. Either date type is fine - I use both. The recipes should be fine for each. Note, if your dried dates are really hard/dry, you may want to soak in a bit of warm water and drain/dry - but that is only if you are really picky. Generally I say just use them as is

2. Nut soaking - I generally do not soak unless the recipe specifically says to do so

I am so excited to have discovered your site. Have now made these brownies twice, once for a very unhealthy family and they looked skeptical but loved them, then for my kids who I had promised brownies for hard work on swim team. My kids kept shouting they were delicious. :) these are so quick and easy to make, and awesome for my own sweet tooth. Can't wait to try more recipes!

Hi Caty, you could add a titch of cayenne pepper to taste - like, maybe 1/4 teaspoon depending on how spicy you like it

Hello from Australia! I stumbled upon your website when looking for gluten free treats sweetened with dates instead of sugar. This is the first recipe of yours I tried a few months ago, and I'm hooked. I made the raw cheesecake for a Mother's Day treat. Delish! Thanks for your great recipes!! xx

These look fantastic, and I can't wait to try them! I'm new to raw food and see coconut in more than half the recipes. Since I am not a fan of coconut, I am wondering if it's necessary to the recipe?

Hi Naava, coconut oil is used as a thickening/hardening agent. Most of the time you cannot even taste it, it is definitely not there for taste. In this particular recipe, the shredded coconut is there for texture only. You can omit it, or you can use hempseed hearts instead. Hope this helps!

I just made this!! It's the first recipe that my new food processor got to try out (:(; just a question, is it supposed to be quite grainy? Mine doesnt seem as dense as creamy as a normal brownie. Or maybe do I need to process it more?

Hi Dooey! It's a bit grainy, yes. But if you don't like that you can process more, but be careful b/c if you process too much it will turn into a fudgy type mixture which won't be very brownie-ish either :)

I hear you, Sarah! This one never lasts long in my house. Even though I've had it what feels like hundreds of times, I'm still not sick of it either!
