Raw brownie recipe

Yield
1 dish brownies
Ingredients
- 1 cup pecans (you can use walnuts in a pinch, but pecans are much better!)
- 1 cup dates
- 5 tablespoons raw cacao (cocoa) powder
- 4 tablespoons shredded unsweetened coconut
- 2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Recipe Directions
- 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
- 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
- 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
- 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
- 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
- 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
- PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.
The Rawtarian's Thoughts
By The RawtarianRaw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!
I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.
My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)
You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.
Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)
Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

I just started the 30 day Raw Diet a week ago. I found your site and I am in love ..... did I tell you I am in love? I never thought I could have so many choices of healthy treats with great tasting meals as well. I tried these brownies first and they are DELICIOUS! I got my boyfriend and my daughter to try them and they agree. Every day I have been experimenting with a different recipe from your site and I have yet to be disappointed. These brownie though......absolutely the best.
I do have a question....has anyone tried using organic raw figs in this recipe? I have a bag at home and wondered if there was a recipe to use them. I don't have an issue with dates it's just that I didn't want the figs to go to waste since I already have them.
God bless you and thank you for sharing your recipes for all of us to use.

You are doing so awesome, Kaneke - I am super proud of you :)
I haven't used figs in these myself. I am humming and hawing about it...
Figs can sometimes have a bit of a cispy-crunchy texture due to the tiny seeds inside them. I would suggest trying HALF DATES and HALF FIGS and see how you like the texture of the end result. If you like it well, then you can do all figs instead of dates next time :)
(Also, just a useful note for other readers: you can totally use prunes instead of dates though, that's a perfect substitution. )

I am allergic to walnut and pecans, is there an alternative for me to use in this recipe? I am new to this way of eating and I have been craving a really good desert and I love brownies.

Hi Kaneke,
Bummer about your tree nut allergies! You can use cashews instead :)

Thank you. I will try that next time. I actually bought some Brazilian nuts (boy are they expensive) and it worked out just fine.

I already voted a year ago, but I need to do it again. This is, so far, the best brownie EVER. And I am not the only one to say it...everyone who has tried it excepting one person who doesn't like dates...so... really people, try this one out, it is AMAZING!!!!!!!

Anna - yay!
And I totally agree about the "date haters" - you CANNOT TASTE THE DATES!!!

Raw brownie recipe
Thank you for this recipe! I am addicted to pecans so was happy to read these will be better with all pecans. My first attempt at raw brownies the other day were with half walnuts, half pecans, and I do agree, all pecans are much better (but very oily). I love the addition of coconut, which I ground up first in the coffee grinder. I will definitely make these again and may add vanilla (or rum: )
I must say the formatting of your site and recipe is awesome. I love the way you highlight the ingredients and provide them in cups with the option of metric. You are awesome!

Raw brownie recipe
Your site is excellent, I'm really impressed. I've made these a few times now, strangely they seem to evaporate rather quickly: ) Today the pecans I had were from Now Foods and they seemed soft, but still tasted fine, so I toasted them a bit before I put them in the food processor. I was very pleased with how they turned out. I also added a very small amount of dark chocolate chips because I'm making them for company and that kind of hit the spot too. I agree these do not need icing, but a tiny hit of actual chocolate makes them a bit more decadent (but again, is not totally necessary: )

Raw brownie recipe
I've been making these over and over to experiment with different ingredients (that's my excuse!) and I've found the best results with a mixture of 2-3 medjool dates and the rest of the cup filled with regular dates (the bag doesn't say what type they are). I bought regular dates when I found I could buy a huge bag of them for $5 while a small bag of medjool were $8, but the medjool dates give the brownies a much smoother texture. I've found a mixture of both give the brownies more air and a more brownie like texture, which the original recipe notes is a good thing. I also experimented with coconut flour as opposed to grinding unsweetened coconut flakes and prefer the ground coconut to the coconut flour for the same reason. I have also decided extra chocolate is not required and can even make them too sweet. Thank you again for such a divine recipe!

Hi Marilyn,
I'm so glad you enjoyed the brownies! Nice tips re: the dates. I too love medjool dates. They're the best! So soft and not grainy. (Just remember to remove the pits!!)

Yasss!!! We have it at our local market and Kroger’s it’s called So Delicious Dairy Free Salted-Carmel Cluster Cashew Milk Frozen ?! It’s defiantly a novelty in our household, it’s pretty pricey but super good. Sadly, only been able to find it in pint size. I thought about making it myself but thought about how dangerous it could be!!! You should def try it you may get addicted, I’m all for something raw so if you whip up something similar I’ll def try it!!!
