Ingredients
- 1 cup pecans (you can use walnuts in a pinch, but pecans are much better!)
- 1 cup dates
- 5 tablespoons raw cacao (cocoa) powder
- 4 tablespoons shredded unsweetened coconut
- 2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Recipe Directions
- 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
- 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
- 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
- 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
- 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
- 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
- PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.
My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)
You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.
Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)
Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

Hey I just calculated the calories and they are 228 per serving if you make 6 servings! Not too shabby and to be savoured. :)

I made these today... and, oh my gosh, are they amazing! This is exactly what I was looking for every time I craved something creamy and decadent, even when on the SAD.
I will experiment with raw walnuts next time.

Hi! I would like to make a lot of your recipes but they contain pecans and walnuts which my boyfriend is allergic to. Can you recommend a good substitute?

3. This particular brownie recipe is pretty forgiving, you can use any nut or seed instead of the pecans/walnuts (I recommend half almonds and half pumpkin seeds)

Hi, we made these today. It was our first foray into raw food and it was certainly a good one! I've wanted to try "raw food" for a while now but figured I should start with something sweet as it is so hard to get my teenage son to eat anything earmarked as "good" or "healthy" because well, he is a teenage boy. Ha. (My thinking was that it would be easier to plate up something else if his first experience was a good one.) But he watched me make these, knew exactly what was going into the food processor and he actually loved them! He had one and then wanted more.
I have to admit, I do not like pecans or dates on their own. So I was a reluctant trier, this was mostly about getting my son to like the recipe and the idea of raw food but it turned out so amazing that even I liked it. So delicious. They tasted just like cooked brownies.
The only problem we had was with the dates. It took a looooong time for them to break down and blend into the nuts. But after reading through the comments I realise now they were too dry. I will know for next time to soak them first.
So thank you for this recipe, we're going to try some of your other ones later this week to see if we like them too. :D

Did anyone else have issues with food processor? The dates and walnuts were stuck together my processor wouldn't spin. I added coconut oil and raw butter for moisture. They taste great but the processing was a pain.

Hi Anthony, Your dates were probably too dry. You could either soak them in a bit of warm water to soften, or just process the nuts first, then add dates and get them processed, then add everything else.

I want to say i have been using some of your recipes over the last couple weeks and they are all just fabulous. I made these brownies and I couldn't stop eating it out of the processor. I used medjool dates and while expensive, i think they made this recipe extra special. I used walnuts cuz that's what I had but next time I will get pecans to see the difference. I took it another step further and made the "I can't believe it's not caramel" sauce http://thedeliciousrevolution.com/dessert/recipe-for-raw-vegan-caramel/ and put that on top of the brownies. It is the most amazing dessert I have ever experienced. My co worker who is very anti raw or anything other than the norm processed foods even loved it. Thank you for all your delicious recipes. :-)

YUMMO!! I made this yesterday with Brazil nuts as that is all that I had in the pantry and I just couldn't wait a whole day to buy Pecans and try this once I saw it!!! And I must say - it is very good, had wonderful feedback from friends and 8yr old and 6yr old were totally won over... imagine if I'd actually had Pecans! Well I bought some today, so when the current batch gets low, I'm ready to go on the next one! THANK YOU!

I would love to make these but my son is highly allergic to nuts. I find many raw recipes use nuts as well. Is there an alternative that I can use that will give the same effect? These brownies look awwwwesome !!
