Ingredients
- 1 cup pecans (you can use walnuts in a pinch, but pecans are much better!)
- 1 cup dates
- 5 tablespoons raw cacao (cocoa) powder
- 4 tablespoons shredded unsweetened coconut
- 2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Recipe Directions
- 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
- 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
- 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
- 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
- 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
- 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.
My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)
You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.
Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)
Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

Raw brownie recipe
Wow!!! AWARD Winning!!! These brownies were so delicious. Warning ⚠️ you’ll want to eat the whole batch! This is the third dessert I’ve tried from your app and it’s another winner. If you have a sweet tooth and love chocolate like me you’ll fall in love with this brownie.
Make sure you blend in the food processor well. I used walnuts and coconut butter since that’s what I had on hand. I couldn’t stop eating the mixture it was so darn good. I put the mixture into heart shaped pans and stored in the freezer for 7 mins and removed (popped right on out) I had to try the chocolate frosting and of course it was just as good. To top it all off I served with vegan salted caramel cashew ? ! My mother and enjoyed every bite. I’ll definitely make again but next time I will omit the honey since it was really sweet, double the recipe, and not layer the cake just to stretch it out so I can have more for later! Yummy in my tummy. Thanks so this simple decadent brownie recipe!

Hi! I love your recipes and hope to give them a try soon. Really want to try the brownie recipe. Id like to slowly transition into vegetarian/vegan. In desserts I was wondering if there was a substitute for coconut oil/coconut flakes as I dislike the taste of coconut. I'd really appreciate a response. Thank you! :)

Hi Susan,
In this recipe, here are the coconut substitutions:
1. In the brownies themselves, you can omit the dried coconut, or you can use an equal amount of hemp seeds instead of the coconut.
2. If making the icing, there is NO substitute for the coconut oil. It's needed to give the icing it's firm, icing-texture. But it doesn't really taste too coconutty, so I'd say go for it :)

Hello! I am going to be using dried dates instead of fresh. Do I need to use less then 1 cup if I do that? Do you recommend I soak the dates first? Thanks!

I usually use dried dates myself :)
Do not soak them! And just use the amount called for, tightly packed into your measuring cup. And you'll be off to the races!

I just made these and ended up dehydrating for 4 hours. They were delicious and came out very brownie like. I think the food processor made them what they were supposed to be. Last time I used my Vitamix. I can't believe I lived without a high speed food processor this long

Raw brownie recipe
I make these pretty regularly and have even taken them into work. They've been a hit with non-vegans/ non-raw eaters. Not yet tried the icing, so that is the next step.
I tired going 100% raw a few years ago but never felt full and got really bored of salads. Laura-Jane, I notice you don't have that many savoury recipes on here, so don't you pretty much get bored of eating salads / raw soups every day? Are there any other meals you can recommend, as these don't fill me up - I have an incredibly fast metabolism!

Raw brownie recipe
This was my FIRST raw recipe that I have attempted. I am amazed at the ease and deliciousness of it! My husband loved it. My 6 yr old who eats 4 things loved it. And I brought them to work where I am surrounded by unhealthy, fast food lovers, and out of the 10 "taste testers", 9 were blown away and asked for the recipe. I went all out and did the icing too. It was a win win, and a wonderful, encouraging, confidence building way to start my raw vegan journey!

Raw brownie recipe
Decadently rich! We loved them. I did put the raw icing on them, as I knew my husband would love that. A small one inch square piece is enough for me. I think I will roll them into balls next time and then roll the balls into cacao powder. We enjoyed them with a glass of 19 Crimes Cabernet Sauvignon. Perfect pairing.
