Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
  • 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
  • 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
  • 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
  • 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
  • 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!

Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.

My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)

You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.

Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)

Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

i just made these and they are AMAZING!!!! I can't WAIT to make them for my family at Christmas! They all think I'm nuts but these are better than regular brownies! Thanks for posting!

This is the best thing I've ever eaten EVER! I have also changed it by adding a hand full of rasberrys at the end for a couple of pulses and it's amazing as well.... and no dehydrating YAY!

Mmm yes, raspberries and these brownies go so well together! We usually serve this brownie recipe with thawed frozen raspberries, kinda like a raspberry syrup. I feel that these brownies are pretty rich, so the acidity and lightness of the fruit is needed.

I have tried these before and got the recipe from a friend. They are AMAZINGLY delicious. She has been raw for a while and recommends soaking the dates overnight OR ... she suggests using Dried Cherries! Let me tell you... chocolate cherry brownies are DIVINE. However, my favorite is mint, so I add 1/2 tsp natural mint flavoring and I have to hide them from myself! I finally just put the mix all in a nice jar and eat with a spoon when I need a sweet fix. They usually last at least a week these days. Enjoy!

Johanna - Yay for your excellent feedback! I will take your advice and revise the wording and make it a pecan recipe. I think I will keep "walnuts" as a back-up option because they are way cheaper than pecans where I live so they are a good option in a pinch, but I will make pecans the recommended nut. :)

I love that you did a side-by-side comparison. Your family must love you and your kitchen creations :)

Hello there

I made these last evening, and, they are nice, but, they kind of taste powdery from the cocoa.

Is there anything I can do to take away the powder flavour. I used Bournville Cocoa Powder. :)

Hmmm.. I am thinking it's an issue with your dates. They probably weren't moist enough. If your dates are really dry you should soak them in some warm water for a bit first.

What you could do with this batch if you wanted is throw them back in your FP and add a bit of water (like, 1 tbsp or less) spin 'em up again. And/or maybe 1 tbsp of coconut oil.

If you aren't finding them sweet enough you could add some honey and water too.

But next time I think you need more moisture.

No one has complained of this powdery flavour, but, I just didn't seem quite right. My dates were pretty dry, but the mixture seemed moist enough, so I assumed it was okay.

I might try making this again today, but this time with Pecans Nuts, and I shall also add a little Honey with the Agave Syrup.

Mmmmm pecans. Yes, do try again. I am also thinking that perhaps TOO MUCH c. powder may have been the prob, too, so try to lay off it a bit next time :)

If you do make it again please come back to report results :)

PS: I really wouldn't add any water to it on second thought. I think it'll just turn into messy fudge if you do that. Bye!

This time with Pecans, and these ones are amazing! Everyone adores them, and think them much nicer than the previous ones, when tasted side by side.

Cocoa powder was decreased slightly too, so the powdery taste is not detectable, but I also added a spoon of Honey with the two spoons of Agarve.

They are wonderful. Delicious.

I would suggest you change your orgianl recipe from Hazelnuts to Pecans [Just ditch the hazelnuts altogether, they are so not worth it in comparison to the Pecans). ;-)

These look fabulous...I will make them for my family, but darn it all, I am allergic to tree nuts.

Almonds and cashews are not considered tree nuts and can be eaten by many people who have tree nut allergies. They are pits of fruits and therefore do not fall into the category of true nuts. There are those who also have allergies to these as well as allergies to true nuts. You may want to check with you allergist regarding almonds and cashews as they may have already tested you for them.
