Recipe Directions

  • 1. Place pecans alone in your food processor and process until the pecans become small and crumbly.
  • 2. Add dates to the raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture sticks together and the dates are well processed.
  • 3. Add the remaining ingredients to this raw brownie recipe and process again until the mixture turns a lovely dark chocolatey brown. Stop processing before it gets too buttery. (There should still be air between the small bits so that you will be able to press them down into your brownie pan.)
  • 4. Dump the mixture into a brownie dish or small cake pan and press down firmly using your clean hands.
  • 5. Refrigerate this raw brownie recipe for a couple of hours. You do not have to refrigerate it, but it is much easier to slice when chilled. By the way, this is actually a raw brownie recipe that keeps its shape! So it can be good for serving to non-raw fooders because the presentation of this raw brownie recipe is good when chilled.
  • 6. Store this raw brownie recipe in the refrigerator if it lasts that long!
  • PS: For an even more delightful brownie, serve it with this easy, instant raw chocolate icing.

The Rawtarian's Thoughts

By The Rawtarian

Raw brownie recipe -- finally, a raw brownie recipe that tastes like REAL BROWNIES!

I am quite surprised and amazed at how the texture of this raw brownie recipe resembles real brownies--especially after this raw brownie recipe is refrigerated for about an hour or even longer.

My husband thinks this raw brownie recipe needs chocolate icing, but I disagree. I think it's perfect on its own! (But it is true, everything is better with raw chocolate icing on it.)

You can also use this raw brownie recipe as a pie crust or as very chocolately raw truffles.

Good luck trying to keep this raw brownie recipe around for longer than 24 hours. This vegan recipe would be good for about eight small servings. Feel free to double the recipe if you want more or if you want to make it last longer. (I usually double it.)

Advanced optional tip: Throw 1 tablespoon cacao nibs into the mixture after processing and before squishing into pan for fun crunchy texture!

Hi Rawtarian,
I've enjoyed your podcasts so far - must say it was this recipe that got me interested in raw. What do you think about making this with a blender. I've asked for a food processor for my birthday, but its next month.
Yours,
Jess

Nope, not gonna work in blender. (trust me)

This isn't chocolatey, but it is yummy and works in a blender: http://www.therawtarian.com/raw-strawberry-milk-recipe

Hope you get a FP for your bday! :) If not, you can get one at a big-box store for around $50

Jacqui can I challenge you on this?? Do you hate the "taste" of dates?? This recipe doesn't taste like dates. Kind of like how if you hate the taste of flour but stil SADl cookies taste good, ya?

:)

You could sub raisins instead.

These brownies are to freakin die for! Thank you so much for this recipe and for all your others. I haven't been disappointed with any of them.
Question: Have you ever made the brownies in your Vitamix?

Thank you again,
Karen P.

No, don't do it in the Vitamix!! Disaster waiting to happen. (trust me) will get all stuck and messy and won't blend properly

:)

(But yes, make the ICING in a VM)

These are amazing!!! Question though - what would you recommend in terms of measurements to make a one portion version? I ask because i ate the entire batch of this in the last 24 hours... and if you have already figured out the measurements I wont fiddle to get there.

Hmm. I don't tend to make 1 portion versions because they often don't blend well --especially in the blender - if you don't have much in the vitamix it won't mix properly.

However, if you figure it out please come back and share with the group. Merci beaucoup!

Help! What can I use to thicken up my brownies? I added too much water...Oops..( my FP was labouring and I thought I was going to burn out the motor) I thought of coconut, but I'd rather use something else. It's the consistency of a really thick icing.. Thanks!

Sorry, I am a bit late in responding :(

Hmm, first rule - don't do that! Lol But I know how it is. Hindsight is 20/20.

If I had very watery brownies I would (1) dehydrate them ; OR (2 ) add some ground chia seeds (they will absorb water); OR perhaps add some dried coconut or ground flax, but #1 or #2 would be better solutions

Thanks for the response..great suggestions:) Well, they ended up being more like a creamy fudge rather than brownies, which was ok, but today I want brownies so I'm gonna follow your exact recipe except I will use brown rice syrup as I do not use honey or agave.. Wish me luck! ;)

Lol, good point!...I shall keep them all for myself! Another question though, are we able to freeze these brownies?

I have never done it myself. If you do I would chop them into squares first, then freeze in smaller batches in small ziploc bags - easier to defrost individually that way.

Of course, you will want to cool/refrigerate them before attempting to cut

Hello! Just wanted to tell you that I just whipped up a batch of these brownies and they are awesome! I'm not a raw food person but I do like to eat healthy and I love to cook. These surprised me in a good way, my husband even liked them. Ran across your podcast and I am definitely curious about this raw food lifestyle. Thanks.

Awesome! Welcome Sarah. Raw food is fun to make even as a novelty - especially raw desserts, like this raw cheesecake made from cashews or even green smoothies in the morning as a great way to start your day. :)

Thank you for posting this! It curbs my sweet tooth so quickly. My whole family loves them and I took them to a girls night as "brownie balls" and they were gone very quickly.
